WELCOME TO THE 2018-19 SCHOOL YEAR!
It’s Monday, July 23rd, and that means CHS is back in session! Wolf Days and Freshman Orientation were a great success and helped transition students into the 2018-19 school year. Thanks to CHS Staff and Student Council for their help with Wolf Days and getting over 3300 students ready for today. On Friday, Link Crew sponsored a terrific Freshman Orientation where staff “clapped in” CHS’s newest freshmen, who then participated in an assembly, small group activities, and a campus tour. Let’s make it a great year, Wolves!
ALL-AMERICAN WRESTLERS
Sophomores Nathaniel Deasey and Zachary Espalin gained All-American status at the Freestyle National Tournament this summer. Nathaniel Deasey is a National Champion and Zachary Espalin took 4th. CHS had two of only three wrestlers in the whole state of Arizona to earn All-American status.
FCCLA WINS SILVER AT NATIONALS
Chandler High FCCLA Early Childhood Education competed at Nationals in Atlanta in June and won a Silver Medal for their Chapter in Review Portfolio. Stevie Garcia (Senior) and Valerie Valdez (Junior), chronicled the chapter’s journey to educate youth in Chandler on the dangers of underage drinking and then led students in taking a pledge to wait with Own Up Arizona.
CHS WINS AIA DIRECTOR’S CUP
Chandler High School was awarded the prestigious AIA Director’s Cup for 2017-18, an award given to one 4A-6A high school in Arizona for excellence in academics, athletics and activities. Chandler was recognized for its implementation of a character education/sportsmanship program, percentage of students participating in AIA activities/athletics, and few corrective incidents reported to AIA. Additionally, CHS’s student-athletes recorded a 3.4 combined GPA. Congrats, Wolves!
VOLLEYBALL ACADEMIC ACCOLADES
CHS is one of two schools in the country to have its girls, boys, and beach volleyball programs receive team academic recognition from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). The award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that display excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.3 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.
Chandler Girls Volleyball was recognized as a Top 25 Academic Program in the country for earning a 4.1 team GPA. Girls Beach had a 4.2 team GPA, and Boys Volleyball earned a 3.65 team GPA. What an honor!
SUMMER LEADERSHIP
Several Wolves took advantage of leadership opportunities such as Girls State, Boys State, HOBY, Arizona Association of Student Councils (AASC), Chandler Police Youth Academy, ASU conferences, and more this summer. Bryn Creek, CHS Junior, attended the Hugh O’Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Conference and described it as “a truly life changing experience that brought together students from all over Arizona to discuss, learn, and understand what leadership means within ourselves and our community. Over the course of four days, our HOBY family learned about one another, our community, and most importantly, ourselves as individuals. In addition to participating in discussions and group building activities, we had the opportunity to give back to Arizona through St. Mary's Food Bank, which helped us to understand what being a leader does to help our community grow.” Applications for leadership conferences are available in the CHS College and Career Center throughout the year. Watch for them!
