## Peek at the Week

Don't forget to send in your child's blue SPCA Marathon envelope to earn a t-shirt by Wednesday! Also, if you still want to place a book order, you have until Monday at noon. Thanks for helping us earn bonus points to order more books!

Reading- Guided reading groups are in full swing! We are working on inferencing, critical thinking, and writing complete sentences with details. Last week we worked on comparing and contrasting when we read a story about a little girl from Korea in Good-bye 382 Shing Dang Dong. This week we will be reading a variation of Beauty and the Beast.

Language Arts- This week we will continue working on subjects and predicates. A subject is who or what the sentence is about. The predicate is what the subject is or does. Ask your child to tell you the difference between these two definitions. Please remind your child to practice their spelling throughout the week.

Writing- Each student is in the process of editing their autobiography. We are using editing marks. This week we will finish writing our final paper and draw a self-portrait to go along with our writing.

Science- Last week we began a new science unit on the human body. The students began by taking the bones they cut out and trying to put them together correctly. We then assembled them as a class. Then the students split up into small groups and tried to count how many bones we have in our bodies. The students also learned about what a joint is and how important each type of joint is. This week we will learn about the nervous and muscular system, make brain hats, and create a muscle craft. The test will be on Friday. Your child received the bones study guide this past Friday and then will have the written portion of the study guide on Tuesday.
