Bert McGriff Memorial Golf Tournament
Cullman High School with co-host Adam Scott director of the Mississippi State PGA Golf Management Program held the Bert McGriff Memorial Monday and Tuesday. The 2 day tournament was held at 2 sites. On Monday the 17 teams on the ladies side played at TPCC and the 17 gentlemens teams played at Cross Creek. On Tuesday the men played TPCC and the ladies played Cross Creek. Several Head Coaches on both sides were quoted to say how awesome an experience this was and an incredibly well run and fun tournament. Not only did we host the 2 day 18 hole stroke play event, but also a mens and womens closest to the pin contest and a dinner hosted by TPCC with guest speakers Barry McGriff giving the history of TPCC but also an encouraging word about his father whom the event is named and Adam Scott Director of the MSU PGA Program. This is a huge event with a total of 165 golfers and 34 teams, and it couldn't have been pulled off without the hard work of Ches Harris, golf pro and director at Cross Creek and Matt Livengood, golf pro and director at TPCC and the many volunteers helping with checkin and lunches.
John Lunsford finished 2nd overall with a +1 for the 2 day total placing him on the All Tournament team. Will Drake also made the All Tournament team with a 2 day combined score of +4 placing him 5th overall. Ben Shedd just missed the all tournament team placing 7th overall with a +6 for the 2 days.
In a very competitive field the CHS Girls finished 4th out of 17 teams, behind Hewitt Trussville, Hartselle, and Spanish Fort. But beating Muscles Shoals, Homewood, Vestavia Hills, Hoover, Bob Jones, Athens.
Kate Cost finished 5th overall shooting an 81 and 77 for the 2 day event at two different courses. Mary Charles Davis finished 9th overall with an 81 and 80.
