Bulldog Bulletin
November 2023 Edition
Principal's Message
Hello, Bulldog Families!
As we move through November, our staff have been hard at work preparing progress reports, which are our first formal snapshot of the ongoing learning that has taken place this year. Hard copies of these documents were sent home with each student on Friday, and will be made available digitally through Edsby in the coming days. When reviewing the reports, please note that the levels provided do not correspond with a specific letter grade (e.g., Progressing Well, B+), and are instead intended to capture pictures of progress for each learner at this point in time as they hone their skills and work towards culminating term evaluations early in the new year.
Educators are in the process of connecting with families to coordinate interviews for those interesting in discussing student progress via phone, video-conference or in-person. The progress reports will serve as a fantastic entry-point into these conversations, enabling educators to provide greater detail and next steps to further each student's development in the months ahead.
As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions, comments or concerns.
Sincerely,
Jason
Volunteer & Donation Celebration!
Karen Watson, better known as Miz and Vicky Carter, were recognized on November 1st at a school assembly for their outstanding dedication to the school community in support of our breakfast program. It was this exceptional commitment, specifically from Miz and her story of volunteerism at HBPS for 24 years, that garnered regional, provincial, and, ultimately, national attention, as she earned enough votes across the country to win an $18000 prize from Timber Mart’s Leader of the Year program. These funds will go a long way in supporting the HBPS breakfast program and other student activities well into the future.
Breakfast Program Volunteers Needed!
We are looking for volunteers who can assist with food preparation for our breakfast program on an ongoing basis. These opportunities are flexible and can be adjusted to accommodate for the busy lives of each volunteer. If this is something you would have time for in your week, even just a day or two, please reach out to our wonderful secretary, Valerie, at valerie_mcmaster@kprdsb.ca.
Please note: All volunteers are required to have a current criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening prior to helping in the school. Applications for these documents are completed digitally, and school staff are happy to provide assistance upon request.
Volunteer Police Checks
We are always happy to welcome volunteers into our school to assist with class trips and in-school activities. In order to volunteer, we need to have your up-to-date Vulnerable Sector check on file in the office. If you wish to have this completed, please contact the office, and we can provide you with a letter to submit for the free police check, now done online!
Pasta Lunches
On Wednesday, November 29th, we will have our School Council providing a pasta lunch for all students. This will happen throughout the year, payment is through School Cash Online.
If you wish to volunteer for this, please contact the office.
School Cash Online
School Cash Online is our preferred method of payment for all school events and fundraisers. It eliminates extra work for the teachers and administration, as well as allows parents to track the purchases they’ve made. If you are not yet using School Cash Online we encourage you to get connected at kprdsb.schoolcashonline.com.
Skating
Earlier this month, students in grades 1-6 enjoyed a fantastic skating experience at the HBM Community Centre! Our next skating date is December 8th, and there will be three additional opportunities in the new year on January 19th, February 9th and March 7th. If your student has skates and a helmet, please send them with these. Otherwise, there are skates and helmets available to borrow. Forms must be returned prior to the event dates for students to participate. Any parents wishing to volunteer please touch base with your child's teacher.
Remembrance Day
Staff and students were honoured to host local veterans at our Remembrance Day assembly on November 10th. Cyrus Hill, a grade 5 student, represented our school at the Cenotaph this year, and placed a wreath on behalf of HBPS to acknowledge the sacrifices citizens in uniform have and continue to make in service of our country.
Arrival Times
We would like to remind all parents of our morning yard supervision limitations. We are able to provide supervision for students arriving on their bus from 8:20 until the bell at 9:00. Students who arrive by walking/car/bike are not provided supervision until 8:45. Please do not arrive at the gate before 8:45 a.m. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation going forward.
