How are elements identified in stars?
Elements are identified in stars using the technique of spectroscopy. This technique can be preformed using a spectroscope which analyizes the radiation of light coming from a star. The radiation will give off a light pattern that helps astronomers identify the elements in stars.
A Spectroscope
Hydrogen, Helium, Lithium, Oxygen Specro
Xenon, Barium, Strontium Specro
What are the different types of spectrums?
- Continuous Spectrum- Unbroken bands of color
- Emission Spectrum- Unevenly spaced lines of color on a dark background
- Absorption Spectrum- Unevenly spaced dark lines on a colored background
How is identifying elements in stars helpful to astronomers?
This is helpful because astronomers can obtain a great amount of information about the sun and stars energy motions and temperatures.
