A note from the Secretary, Mrs. Gessay
- This is a reminder that if there is any change in the dismissal routine for your child, we must have this change in writing and submitted to the office prior to 1:00 p.m.. Please don't See-saw or e-mail this information to the teachers during the day. Given the high number of changes we receive daily, we must have a note to accommodate any change in dismissal. We will follow your childโs regular dismissal routine unless a note is received. Your childโs safety is extremely important to us!
- With a continuous effort to save on paper, all weekly and monthly newsletters will be posted on our LSS website (vernonpublicschools.org/lake-street-school). If you have not received our weekly Thursday Flyer by e-mail, please let me know. It may be an error in our system.
- Lake Street School went RED on Friday, February 5th in order to support Heart Health and National Go RED day.
- March reminds us to register students for Kindergarten. If you have a child that will be 5 years old on January 1st you must register them for Kindergarten. All registrations are now being processed on-line through our Vernon Public Schools website. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions.
- Information regarding Extended School Year and our Summer Learning Program are available on our Vernon Public Schools website. https://www.vernonpublicschools.org/district-programs/vernon-summer-school
- Spring Recess begins on April 12th and ends on April 16th. ENJOY!

A message from our Nurse, Mrs. Valentino
Dear LSS Families,
COVID-19 is spread mainly via person-to-person contact through contaminated air droplets from coughing and sneezing by an infected person. Please keep observing the following preventive measures and discuss them with your children and family members:
- Wash your hands frequently, but especially after using the restroom and before preparing or consuming food. Using soap and hot water, wash for about 20 seconds. Be sure to also wash your fingertips. When soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer.
- Avoid coughing or sneezing into your hands or in the air. Always try to cough or sneeze into a tissue, then throw the tissue away. If you donโt have a tissue, cough/sneeze inside the elbow of your arm.
- Avoid touching your eyes, mouth, and nose.
- Wear a face covering (mask)
- Maintain social distancing (at least 6 feet) between yourself and others when outside of your home.
Below is the list of COVID-19 symptoms family members should be monitoring for:
โ Fever (100.4ยฐ Fahrenheit or higher)
โ Chills or shaking chills
โ Uncontrolled new cough (not due to other known cause, such as chronic cough)
โ Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
โ New loss of taste or smell
Students showing any of these symptoms should remain home. The doctorโs office should be contacted to report their symptoms and receive medical advice. The pediatrician will evaluate and decide if testing is necessary or will consider an alternative diagnosis. MD letters with test results/alternative diagnosis should be faxed over LSS to fax number (860)-870-6084.
If you know your child has been in close contact with a person that tested positive for COVID-19, keep him/her home, contact the pediatrician, and notify LSS Health Office. Per the Department of Public Health (DPH) Addendum 5, a person is considered to be a close contact after โspending a total of at least 15 minutes (within 24 hours) within 6 feet of a person with confirmed COVID-19.โ
If you need to report health related information about your child, call the Health Office at 860-870-6088. Please be advised if you leave a message after dismissal, during weekends or on a non-working day for the Health Office, it will be answered in the morning or when we return to school. For any emergencies please e-mail Ms. Duenzl.
