State Capitol Trip for 7th Grade

On Monday, May 6 and May 13, three hundred (150 on each day) 7th graders plus 30 teachers and support staff, from DMMS traveled to St. Paul to tour the Minnesota State Capital Building. For many of the students, they had never been to the Capital and in many cases, they had never been to St. Paul, so it was an exciting experience. The weather cooperated on both days and each group of students were able to go out on to the roof of the Capital and view the beautiful city of St. Paul.

After the tour of the building and since the Session was in progress, the students were joined on the Capital stairs by two of our local representatives, Senator Nick Frentz and House of Representatives Member Jack Considine. Both representatives addressed the students and answered questions. They students then enjoyed lunch on the Capital grounds. It was a wonderful day and learning experience for all involved.

AVID Career Fair

Students chose a career that they were interested in and researched many aspects of that career. After finding information, they created a presentation board with information to share with others who attended the "Career Fair" in the DMMS Media Center.

Vietnam Veterans Visit 7th Grade U.S. Studies Classroom

Thank you Mr. David "Doc" Peik and Mr. John Jenniges for your service to our country and sharing your experiences during the Vietnam War. The best way to learn about history is from those whom experienced it, and there isn't a textbook or documentary that can duplicate what you did for our students today.
