Summer update
Living Judaism
We met on 30th June, at St Margaret's School, in Northam, Bideford.
We were joined by Linda Ford-Horne who talked about aspects of Judaism, in particular Shabbat and the lesser known end-of-Shabbat celebration, Havdalah.
She brought to life the rich cultural heritage within the Jewish faith , and its impact on life and practice. She pointed out how to spot Kosher food in the supermarket (look for a small k!) and what constitutes work on a sabbath! She taught us about the importance of the mezuza on every door frame of the house and touched on the difficult times that Jews have faced in history.
She spent the day leading up to this meeting with two local schools, giving children the chance to explore Judaism in a fun, interactive way.
She also gave us some advice about what items we should have in a Jewish artefact box.
She passed on lots of useful resources, such as a song for Shabbat and the recipe for Challah bread which you will be able to access via the LTLRE website (link below).

Peter Owen Jones- speaking at The Tubestation, Polzeath, Corwall, 30th July
Acclaimed author, television presenter and Anglican Vicar Peter Owen Jones will be talking about how he has pushed the boundaries of what it means to have faith.
So far through his BBC documentaries, Peter has followed in the footsteps of Saint Francis of Assisi, experiencing a simple life by living without money and... has travelled the world exploring different faiths for his documentary 'Around the world in 80 faiths'. Another journey saw him setting out on a similar path to Saint Anthony, the founder of monasticism, by living alone in the middle of the Egyptian Sinai Desert, this chapter of his life became the inspiration for his acclaimed book 'Letters from an Extreme Pilgrim'.
Tickets are £8 either from the Tubestation or follow the link to buy your ticket online following the link below:
