Making our Hive Thrive
- Specials – A teacher was using technology to actively engage students in the learning process. The lesson also included a perfect model of the gradual release of responsibility.
- K – Teachers are collaborating about how to incorporate anchor charts during literacy instruction. They are also doing a great job teaching students multiple ways to solve math problems.
- 1st – Teachers are doing an awesome job collaborating about intervention block. They are planning differentiated instruction that meets the needs of all learners.
- 2nd – Teachers are using anchor charts to provide visual literacy for students. Students are using anchor charts as tools during literacy assignments.
- A teacher was differentiating math instruction by using colored story problem cards. The numbers that were used varied and the students selected the cards that they felt would be a “good fit.”
Counselor Corner
There will be a change to how we come and go to assemblies. It may take a little more time at first but once we get use to it, it should go much more smoothly. Our first test will be on Monday Oct 20. After the assembly, I would love your feedback on what you think worked and didn’t work.
- Please wait for an announcement before you come to assemblies. You will be called one grade at a time.
- We will start with 2nd grade. Please use the main door of the auditorium to enter. That means you will have to walk out the main office doors to get to the main doors of the auditorium. You will then fill up the seats in the back.
- Then 1st grade will be called. You will come through the side door of the auditorium. You will fill up the seats in front of the 2nd graders.
- Then Kindergarten will be called. You will also come through the side doors of the auditorium. You will fill up the seats in front of the auditorium. And if needed, sit on the floor.
- Then preschool will be called. You will also sit in the front, or on the floor.
If assemblies are in the gym. We will still call you to come starting with 2nd, then 1st, K and preK. I will be there to help seat your classes. Please remind students to come in quietly to assemblies. That way everyone can hear where they are supposed to go.
When we dismiss, go out the doors you came in.

STEAM lab Ribbon Cutting
Please follow the new assembly procedures that Alicia outlined above. The assembly will begin at 1:30 and will conclude by 2:00. The Ribbon Cutting will be streamed live into the auditorium via a Google Hangout. We will start the assembly with some remarks and then a video of the lab transformation. Following the video, we will have the ribbon cutting and then showcase the lab in a very exciting way--VIP guests who participated in the ribbon cutting will observe as students interact with the materials in the lab and audience members in the auditorium will get a close up look through the webcam in the lab. I hope your students enjoy the assembly and especially hope that it builds real enthusiasm for the the things they will get to experience in the lab!
Dr. Grimesey will be among our special guests. He will arrive early to read to some of our students. 2nd grade teachers have selected some of their student leaders to escort Dr. Grimesey when he arrives as well as welcome our special guests to the auditorium for the assembly. We look forward to seeing our 2nd grade leaders in action on Monday!
