What's Up @ GCHS
On Your Marks... (Part 1 of Back to School 2021-22)
We are On The Mark for September 7
It's officially become the time of Back to School. Including this newsletter, there will be a set of 3 Back to School Newsletters. Each week I will update them with as much information as I can to keep everyone in the loop as to what students/parents should expect.
Schedule pick up has been changed. Here is the new information:
Sept 6: Student schedules will go live on MiStar. Check MiStar and have that with you on the first day of school.
Sept. 7: Students will report directly to their 1st hour as it appears on MiStar.
Sept 13: All students will have id/picture day on Sept. 13, during the school day. Students will be called down by alphabet to get their pictures taken and receive their school ids.
STUDENTS WHO ARE VIRTUAL:
- The new virtual program we are using is run by an outside company. As soon as we have information to pass on to you as far as classes etc, we will contact you.
- Please keep in mind, classes will be chosen with the students requests in mind, but we cannot guarantee students classes will match. We will make sure that all of the classes will go towards graduation requirements.
- We will have a time on Sept. 13 that virtual students will need to be at the building to get their new school id/pictures.
Fall Mitigation Plan
- Masks will be available for any staff member or student that would like one
- Bus riders must wear a mask while on the bus (this is a public transportation rule)
- Staff and students are encouraged to but not mandated to wear a mask while in school.
- Desk shields have been removed from student desks.
- We will continue efforts of social distancing in classrooms and lunchrooms as necessary/available
- Although not part of the mitigation plan, due to construction 1 way staircases may still be in effect at high school
1 - 1 District
- Aug. 26: Incoming Freshman will pick up their Chromebooks on Aug. 26 at the end of freshman orientation.
Sept. 1: Students grades 10-12 with the last names starting A - K are to pick up their Chromebooks at the middle school IT window between the hours of 10 am - 5 pm. If the student is unavailable someone from their MiStar contact can pick it up for them.
Sept 2: Students grades 10-12 with the last names starting L - Z are to pick up their Chromebooks at the middle school IT window between the hours of 10 am - 5 pm. If the student is unavailable someone from their MiStar contact can pick it up for them.
CALLING ALL INCOMING FRESHMAN
- The event is from 8 am - noon for incoming 9th grade students only.
- Orientation will be located at Cambridge, and students will enter Cambridge from the back of the high school parking lot nearest the HS gym.
- INCOMING FRESHMAN WILL RECIEVE THEIR CHROMEBOOKS AT THE END OF ORIENTATION.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
- A day or two before orientation your child will also receive a phone call or email from their Link Crew Leader personally inviting them to orientation day and giving the details of where to be and what time. The Leaders can also answer any questions they may have.
- Your student is encouraged not to bring backpacks, purses or other like items as the day is quite active.
- Because the day is active, please make sure that your student wears comfortable clothing that does not restrict movement.
This is a student only function so we encourage you to let your child attend on their own.
We look forward to a great orientation day!
