The Buzz at Westbrook School

From the Principal...
Dear Westbrook Families,
District 57 will offer targeted opportunities for parents and certified staff to check in during February. Our district encourages ongoing communication between our staff and families. In addition to emails, phone calls, and meetings as needed throughout the year, we hold parent and teacher conferences with all families in October and November. New this year, we will be offering check-ins on an as-needed basis during February. These will differ from conferences in that there will not be a full presentation about your child. You will indicate a topic you wish to discuss or questions for the teacher or related service provider. There is less time allocated than for fall conferences, so depending upon the level of interest, available time will be prioritized based on student needs. Check-ins may be done over the phone, via Zoom, or through in-person meetings. Please don’t feel obligated to check in, but you are welcome to request a time with a staff member if you have a particular topic to discuss.
If you are interested in having a check-in with any certified staff member, please fill out this form by Friday, February 3rd. You can translate the page for the sign-up form using your browser. To translate the sign-up form into another language, right-click anywhere in the Google Form and select the Translate to Language option. Please fill out a separate form for each check-in you are requesting. For example, if you have two children at Westbrook and wish to talk with one child’s homeroom teacher and the other child’s art teacher and social worker, you would fill out three forms. You will then be contacted to schedule a time to talk with the teacher or related service provider. Staff may schedule meetings/calls before school, during their planning time, during lunch hour, or after school. Feel free to follow up if you don’t hear anything by Friday, February 10th.
I want to thank our PTO for the wonderful winter warm-up breakfast for staff. We are so grateful for how you take care of our staff.
For your Children,
Danielle Crandall

Recognize a Staff Member
Westbrook teachers and staff work hard to support students and staff daily. We invite you to complete the google form if you would like to recognize a staff member or team for their hard work and dedication. We will pass on the good news to them. Thank you in advance for sending an encouraging word, as we know it will mean so much to them.
Safety Reminders
- Please park your car and walk your students across the bus lane for arrival. Please do NOT allow your students to walk in the parking lot unaccompanied.
Please ensure you use the crosswalk in the parking lot walking to and from Westbrook.
Please do not walk between the buses. Staff members will be in front of the school each morning, reminding families to only cross at the crosswalk.
Please do not bring dogs or animals onto school property. Many of our students are frightened of dogs.
Please contact the classroom teacher if you have a friend or family member picking up your child. Please communicate to the adult which door your child is dismissed from.
Thank you so much for your support of safety at Westbrook!
Notes from the Nurse
Please keep your child home if they have a fever, have vomited, and/or have diarrhea. Your child may return to school once they have been fever free (without fever reducing medication), vomit free, and/or diarrhea free for 24 hours. Please reach out to your pediatrician if your child is sick and you have any concerns.
Please report all absences to the school by using the attendance line, the absence notification form or by emailing the teacher and / or the office.
Warm Regards,
Julie Tworek, RN
