3rd Grade
Newsletter for March 29, 2018
From the teacher's pen
Holy week is usually a calm, reflective time. However, with the success of the accreditation team visit and Spring break coming up, we are all having difficulty being calm and reflective. Enjoy your Spring break and I will see you all in April.
I am proud of the 3rd graders
Your children remind me often of why I teach. Last week, we came back to class early after practicing for the Stations of the Cross. The students had about 15 minutes left to their school day. I was wracking my brain for what I could get them engaged in that would be meaningful. They all looked at the schedule and here it came..."what are we doing now?" I may have responded with an educated, "Ummm." Then a couple of them said, "Let's do meditation. We didn't get to do it today." They all loudly agreed. That is how we ended our Thursday. Stations went beautifully. Rosaries are in their backpacks today.
Sea Life Research
Research started out great. I told them my goal for the first day was for them to find just 2 facts. The students are recording facts on notecards, following a specific process, and paying attention to correct spelling of scientific words. They learned what to do very quickly and are excited about what they are able to do. Yay! This spring break I will be hanging all the fantastic sea creatures. The ones that have already come in are beautiful!
After Spring Break
- April's Passport map is in your child's homework folder.
- The 3rd trimester prayer test will be on the Apostles Creed. We actually will also do an intense study of the Nicene Creed and compare it to the Apostles Creed.
- In math, will review adding, subtracting, and solving word problems with money. We will then move on to bar graphs and line plots, followed by fractions. Perhaps have your child work ahead on IXL.
- Pioneer Farm permission slips are in your child's homework folder. Please complete both sides and return with the $40 fee by Friday, April 13. (I'm sorry I was not able to get supplemental funding to reduce the fee).
