Thoughts from Dr. Pacatte
Lunch AND Breakfast
After two years of the federal government providing lunches for school students, things have returned to “normal” when it comes to food services in our schools. Our “normal” however, is a little different. Gurnee School District 56 is now serving lunch and breakfast. All of our schools opened the year with both options being served through a new payment system. A number of flyers have been shared since last spring regarding the changes in our program. Each student has a special ID (barcode) food service account and parents are able to add funds to their lunch accounts. When the student receives a milk or meal, the appropriate amount is removed from the account. There are still free, reduced, and full priced options. For more information on the process to apply for free or reduced lunch, please check with your school office.
Of course there have been a few glitches as the technology, students, staff, and parents all get used to the new system, but we have found them easily corrected. Students are learning their account numbers or special cards have been created to ease up the process depending upon the age of the students. The numbers of participants continue to grow each week. If you would like your child to participate in either breakfast or lunch, please contact your school for next steps and If you would like your child to participate in either breakfast or lunch please contact your school for next steps for more information please visit the Gurnee School District 56 website.
