The Kindergarten Thanksgiving Program will be on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 9:00 a.m. We can't wait to see you there!
Please have your child wear black and white on this day if possible as we are the pilgrims in our play.
Thanks so much!
Thanksgiving Holiday Break
Literacy Learning
In Reader's Workshop, we will be reviewing main idea and details. A few weeks ago, we worked on this skill with nonfiction texts. Next week, we will be using fiction texts to identify the main idea and key details. Your child will be expected to draw or write the main idea and 3 key details from a story we read together. You can practice this at home with any text (fiction or nonfiction). Try asking your child: What is this text mostly about? Then have your child find 3 pictures in the text that support their answer.
In writing next week, we will be writing informational pieces about turkeys. Our standard is to recall information from experiences and gathered resources. We will be using multiple nonfiction texts about turkeys to learn and support our writing.
Math Memo:
Our standards for next week are to:
Count forward beginning from a given number within the known sequence (instead of having to begin at 1)
Write numbers from 0-20. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0-20.
The "teen" numbers can be tricky for students to understand and write. There are some great videos on youtube to explain these numbers. Just search "tricky teens song kindergarten."
When we ask students to represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0 - 20, we show them a number and then have them use manipulatives to make that number. You can practice this at home with just about anything: beans, cheerios, hair barrettes, etc. Write a number on a flashcard and then have your child find the number of objects that number represents!
You can also give your child lots of practice with counting forward by calling out a random number and having them count up! This is a fun game to play just about anywhere!
