- Spring Sports Tryouts begin Saturday, April 17th. Make sure that you have registered on FamilyID and that your physical is updated. Athletes must have a 2.0 GPA for the 3rd Quarter to try-out.
March 24th- Asynchronously Learning Day
St. Mary’s County Public Schools (SMCPS) has committed to minimizing exposure and risk in our county’s COVID-19 data by reducing the number of grade-level test-takers (11th and 12th grade students only) for the SAT, scheduled for Wednesday, March 24, 2021.

ASVAB
The ASVAB is a timed multi-aptitude test, which is given at over 14,000 schools and Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS) nationwide and is developed and maintained by the Department of Defense.
LHS will be hosting the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) test on Friday, April 9th. Juniors and Seniors can register here. Transportation will not be provided. Students must report to LHS by 7:45 AM with a test start time of 8 AM. Please reach out to Mrs. Wilson, jawilson@smcps.org with any questions.
Counselor's Corner
PSAT update: All students who came to LHS on 10/24/2021 and took the PSAT can now view your score on the College Board Website or HAC. To view scores in HAC, log into your account, then your student, then click on the grades tab , then click the Test Scores tab and look for the PSAT scores.

Struggling with a class? Follow these steps, and let us support you!
- Set up an appointment to meet with the teacher one-on-one
- Attend multiple intervention/tutoring opportunities with the classroom teacher (this can be accomplished by requesting one-on-one Google Meets with the teacher during asynchronous sessions so you can get assistance with any content/tasks that you are struggling with).
- Discuss your concerns with your school counselor
- Requests a parent / teacher conference to include parent, student, teacher, and counselor.
Registration for all 9th - 11th grade students will begin at LHS starting April 12th and run through April 30th. If during this time period, your child does not meet with his/her counselor on zoom, we will continue to work on registration throughout May and June.
The Forrest Career & Technology Center is happy to report that they have completed the first round of acceptances to their programs and electives for applications that were submitted by the February 19th deadline. Students who have been accepted were notified through their school email between March 15th and March 19th. Students who have not yet been accepted will be placed on a waiting list, ranked by score, and will be continually adjusted as seats become available until September 3rd. Students may continue to submit applications and will be placed on the waiting list. Specific questions can be directed to techcenter@smcps.org.

Are you a Sophomore or Junior interested in applying to Leonardtown National Honor Society?
Interested 10th and 111th graders must have a 3.5 GPA, have completed 50 service hours since the end of their 8th grade year, have held 4 leadership positions and show strong personal character.
Students wishing to apply this (or next) school year are encouraged to attend an interest and application meeting Friday, March 12th or Friday, March 19th at 1pm.

Senior parents interested in creating a grad ad for the yearbook can do so through the Tribute Ads website. The deadline for the ads is April 1, 2021. Please visit the Tribute Ads site to create an ad honoring your senior.
Senior Yearbook Items
The deadline for the senior yearbook items has been extended to Friday, March 26. Seniors, please submit your senior superlative votes using this Google Form, your activities and awards list using this Google Form, and your index card using this Google Form. Seniors, the senior section is filled with YOUR items! Please submit so we have a great senior section in the yearbook.

We are in need of pictures for some of our spreads! Click here for specifics regarding what pictures we still need. Please upload pictures directly to our Yearbook website using ReplayIt or send pictures to Mrs. Page. Please do not submit screenshots of pictures or pictures with filters. Upcoming Writing Contests & Opportunities for Students
United States Foreign Service Essay Contest - Successful essays will identify, in no more than 1,250 words, a situation where diplomats worked on a peacebuilding initiative with partners from the country/region in question, nongovernmental organizations, and other parts of the U.S. government, and then go on to analyze what characteristics and approaches made the enterprise a success.

March is Women's History Month
Every March, our nation recognizes the remarkable accomplishments of women as a part of Women’s History Month. Our history is rich with amazing stories of strong, courageous, and brilliant women. Leonardtown High School also wants to celebrate the achievements of women.
Last week we asked: Who was the first woman inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? The answer is Aretha Franklin; she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on January 3, 1987.
This week's trivia: Who was the ecologist writer whose path-breaking book, “Silent Spring” in 1962 initiated the environmental movement?

LHS Apparel!
- We have added apparel items to MySchoolBucks. Our starting inventory has limited sizes in all designs. But new designs and sizes will be entered as they are received. As orders are received they will be placed in the Main Office for pickup the next business day.
- There is now a "Donation Item" to LHS's suite of items available on MySchoolBucks. Patrons can add a donation to their basket when they are shopping for other items. There is a field where they can request the funds to a certain organization.
- Looking for a good stocking stuffer? New LHS facemasks are now available for $10/each.
