Important Dates & Cafeteria Info...
As you know, from previous district and school communications, federal waivers for free meals expired in June 2022. All districts have been required to return to pre-pandemic operations for the 2022-23 school year. Meals free of charge will be available only to those students who qualify through Direct Certification, Categorical Eligibility, or the 2022-2023 Application for Free and Reduced Price School Meals. Please contact the main office if you need assistance with completing an application: 732.505.5830.
We encourage you to review the weekly menu with your child to determine what days (if any) they will purchase lunch. Our district is committed to ensuring the health of our students and we will never deny a student lunch if they report that they are hungry or have not brought a lunch from home. If you are not a Medicaid/NJ FamilyCare member, the resources listed on pages 13 - 16 will be most helpful in connecting you to community based resources and advocacy groups.
A Letter from Mrs. Monetti
Making Good Choices When No One is Watching
This year I've had to spend some time scrolling through digital camera footage to identify students who have made poor choices - both in the building and outside.
It's a time consuming endeavor that makes me both sad and frustrated. I am always sad to have to confirm bad behavioral choices because I always think the best of our current and former students. It makes me frustrated because I should spend my time on more valuable activities like visiting classrooms, talking with students and supporting teachers.
One area that I need to ask parents' support is reinforcing acceptable school behavior, especially in areas that do not have cameras - Namely, the bathroom. Lately, we have experienced a spate of very upsetting situations. These are some of the behaviors we are noticing:
- Throwing water on the floor, making it unsafe for peers who walk in unaware of the slipping hazard,
- Stuffing wads and wads of toilet paper in the toilet, clogging it which requires a custodian or plumber to come and fix it,
- Writing on the bathroom walls (sometimes curse words),
- And in extreme circumstances, urinating on the floor or handling feces.
We may assume that kids realize what is acceptable and not acceptable behavior in the bathroom, but I think it's necessary to make our expectations crystal clear. Being clear in our expectations allows no excuses for poor behavioral choices and makes disciplining those students fair.
Please be sure to talk with your child/ren about proper behavior both in the bathroom and out. Children need to know that socially acceptable behavior is expected in every setting, regardless if adults are watching.
Who we are is largely a reflection of the choices we make. It is my expectation that students will be "Proud Patriots" at all times. I truly thank you for your support in helping our kids be the best they can be.
