Students in Physical Education
From the Science Department
The new "S" in STEAM class has been learning about the scientific method and the steps in the design method. Recently they have been tasked with making simple items from easily accessible household goods. As the class processes the tasks will become increasingly complex.
Here we see juniors Jordan Enright and Liam Drury making tops from paper plates, masking tape, pennies and a pencil. The challenge was to design and construct a top that spins for at least 30 seconds.

Physics Class
Mr. Catucci's Honors Physical & Earth Science class started the year off with a Paperclip-Parachute Challenge.
The science and engineering goal for this challenge was to create a design that would take the longest time to fall to the ground with a paperclip attached to it.
Students could only use the following materials: 1 sheet of paper, 1 strip of tape 20.0 cm long and 1 paperclip meant to represent a person.
Students had fun creating and testing different designs and finding inspiration from nature, recreating things like feathers and leaves. At the same time they learned how to apply trial and error and work in groups to achieve a goal.

Scituate Prevention Partnership
We have another full year of exciting prevention strategies in the making and need your valued input. I have attached a flyer for our High School open house event to take place on September 20th. You are all invited to attend and learn the hidden signs of potential teen drug use. I have also attached a design for our "Tip Line" ad campaign and I would like to hear your input before sending it for final State approval.
Our next day time meeting is September 21st from 1:00-2:00 in the High School library conference room. We will also be starting an additional evening meeting for those of you who can not make the 1:00 meeting. It is not necessary to attend both meetings. We are trying to create more community partners by holding evening meetings so please pass along the word to anyone you feel would be interested. The first evening meeting will be September 27th. The time and location is TBD in the near future.
Thank you for your continued support.
