MAVS MEMO
August 1, 2019
We are ALL-IN!
So wonderful having everyone back today!
We hope you enjoyed breakfast and our first day back!
Thursday will be here before you know it! We can't wait to have everyone back! But until then, have an amazing last week of summer vacation!
FYI only...because several have asked...
Air Conditioning will be in the entire building beginning Monday, July 29.
DRESS FOR CONVOCATION:
Our black polo shirts and shorts are fine for Convocation. It will be warm so feel free to wear a hat, sunscreen and bring a bottle of water! The bus leaves Mathews at 7:45.
FAMILY PICTURES:
Just a reminder to our new staff to bring a framed family picture you would like to share in our glass showcase cabinets in the main hallway. It is a wonderful way for our Mathews family to get to know our staff a little bit better.
Also, we have our personal 'Family Wall' in the Teacher's Lounge. Please print a favorite picture or send an electronic copy to Nancy (Nancy.Parker@pisd.edu) to add to our wall.
#WeAreFamily!

We ask that each member of our faculty and staff join our PTA as a sign of respect and support for all they do for us as well as our students throughout the course of the year.Dues are $7.50 for the year. Clicking the button below will take you to the Mathews PTA website where you can sign-up. You can also sign-up with paper and pen on August 1 if you prefer.
Our PTA provides us with multiple breakfasts and lunches throughout the course of the year...not to mention the yummy desserts! You will easily recoup your $7.50 membership investment in no time at all!
It is as easy as "1, 2, 3" as you will see when you click on the site.
SPIRIT WEAR:
We begin our week in our staff polos on Mondays with "Staff Spirit Day".
We end our week with "Spirit Day" on Fridays with your favorite team...PESH, PSH, West, Cowboys, Rangers, Mavericks, Stars....Indiana....(heh heh!) Whoever you love to support.
You are welcome to wear jeans on our spirit days if you choose. Please remember that jeans should not have holes in them even if designed that way and hems should not be frayed.
Optional: Mathews Spirit Day on Tuesdays. Another way you can support our PTA is by buying spirit wear from them. They have a wide selection with lots of sizes to choose from.
If you purchase 2019-2020 spirit wear from our PTA you are welcome to wear it on Tuesdays with jeans. Just our way of saying thank you supporting our PTA. (You may also choose to wear past year staff shirts on Tuesdays as well.)
COMMUNICATION
Communication is the KEY!
Mavs Memo:
The Mavs Memo is the weekly staff newsletter. It typically goes out on Thursday morning; Friday at the latest if there is a conflict. You are expected to review the Mavs Memo for information each week so we can all stay on the same page with information regarding our campus.
If you have information that needs to be shared or if there are changes to be made, please let Patricia Powell (Tricia) know. The goal of our Mavs Memo is to provide a one-stop shop for quick reference and links that you will need to know/access/address.
The school e-News:
The Mathews e-News Corral is the school newsletter to our parents and school community.
It goes out through e-News every Friday afternoon. You can sign up for that as well. It is also sent to all staff on Friday afternoon via an email link in case you are not signed up for the Mathews e-News Corral. It is good information to review so you are on the same page as our parents in case they reach out to you with a question.
The Mathews calendar: We keep the Mathews calendar updated with all school events. Please be sure you have access to the Mathews calendar. If you do not have it uploaded for viewing, please check with team leader or Justin Taylor for assistance.
Updating the school calendar:
Please be sure to send Nancy Parker an email with dates and times of events that need to be added to our calendar. This helps to populate the 'Upcoming Events' in our newsletters as well. (Note: Not all go on the parent e-News; example staff meetings, Sunshine events, etc.; however, we will include them in the staff weekly newsletter, Mavs Memo.)
Ryan Steele has also begun to send to your professional calendar 'invites' to populate events on your calendar. You will need to accept these. It is best for you to have your calendar and the Mathews calendar open for viewing. They can be side by side or overlapped and color coded. You can ask Justin or Tricia if you need help with this.
REMIND:
Ryan Steele also stays in touch with you utilizing REMIND. If you have not already done so, you need to sign up for REMIND. (Information is provided next below.)
REMIND with Principal Steele
There are two ways to sign-up: You can text or send an email. See below for information for both.
