On Wednesday, June 1st, specific 8th grade scholars were recognized for their hard work, dedication, and perseverance at the Awards Assembly. Our beautiful gymnasium was filled with proud parents and loved ones eager to hear their student be recognized for their accomplishment.
On Monday, May 23rd, Sward School celebrated World Day of Cultural Diversity. Students learned about their own family's culture, heritage and traditions. Across grade levels, students proudly shared about their cultures. It was such an amazing experience learning how diverse our Sward community is!
As the 2021/2022 school year wraps up, Hannum teachers and students are busy with end of the year countdowns, field day, and picnics. This year, we decided to slow down and dedicate some time to the first ever Hannum Growth Parade.
Last Friday was a beautiful day to celebrate and remember a beautiful girl, Abby Wujcik! Kolmar students and staff participated in the 2022 Live Like Abby Walkathon and it was such a wonderful day. Abby Wujcik was just 8 years old and a student at Kolmar when she passed away from a pediatric brain tumor.
Grade 1 is spreading their wings! A few weeks back, classes received caterpillars and watched them create their cocoons. This past week, each class was able to witness the caterpillars come out of their chrysalis as butterflies! Today Mrs. Hall's class released their butterflies into the wild.
8th grade Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School students were provided an invaluable opportunity thanks to the District 123 Education Foundation! Ms. Jill Bleski, 8th grade ELA teacher, saw an email in the fall of the advertisement for the play. Scholars read the novel To Kill a Mockingbird in 8th grade as well as analyze the similarities and differences between the text and film.

On April 28, 2022 Hometown Elementary's Gymnasium was turned into a night under the Big Top. Led by ringmaster Mrs. Bencik, students and families enjoyed an evening full of math games funded by our Title 1 grant.
