Family Update
Davis Middle School

"Education is the key to unlocking the world, a passport to freedom." ~ Oprah Winfrey
Dear Davis Families,
Welcome to the first Friday Family Update. Much of the information below is repeated from the back to school newsletter but you will see a bit of new information about picture day, breakfast and lunch, the 8th grade DC trip, and new athletic information.
We had a great time seeing so many of our incoming 6th grade students and families for Popsicles with the Principal. It was a very informal way for students to see and meet a few friendly faces to try to ease a bit of the anxiety of starting a new school. Attending the 6th grade orientation on Wednesday will help even more.
Returning students may stop by anytime on Thursday, August 11 for student walkthroughs to make sure they have their schedule and know where their classes are located. Unable to attend? No worries!! We will have plenty of folks available to help on the first days of school.
Go Irish!

Clinic Updates
Ohio Health Wellness on Wheels and Free Sports Physicals
OhioHealth will have their WOW (Wellness on Wheels) Bus at Davis on August 10 (6th grade orientation) and August 23. They will be filling families in on the services they provide in the school and also in their offices.
They are also going to offer, during the school day from 8am-12pm, free sports physicals for students on August 31.
Immunizations **7th Grade Parents
Ohio Law mandates that all 7th grade students are required to receive the Tdap and Meningococcal vaccine by September 7. Students who have not met this requirement will be excluded until the required vaccines are completed and documentation is provided to the school clinic.
If your child has already received both of these vaccines, please call your child's health care provider or local health department and request a copy of the updated immunization record to be submitted to the school clinic.
If your child has not yet received these vaccines, please schedule an appointment with your child's health care provider or local health department. Please submit your child's completed immunization record to the school clinic.
Irish Athletics
Fall sports are well underway at Davis! It is very exciting to have the kids back on campus and working hard to get ready for the new sports season. It is still not too late to join our football or cross country teams. Any interested athletes in the 7th or 8th grade simply need to have a current physical on file and be registered in Final Forms. The deadline for joining these last two open programs is August 17.
Meet the Coach Night: Tuesday, August 9 is our Fall Sports Parent meeting, and "Meet the Coach Night" at Davis. This meeting will take place in the Davis gym at 7: 00 pm. After a brief meeting with the Athletic Director, parents will meet with their child's coaches and talk about the upcoming season, schedules, and expectations. Please plan to attend this very important and informational meeting.
Sports Nutrition Seminar: The Davis athletic department has scheduled a series of sports-specific nutritional meetings with a sports dietitian from Ohio Health for all of our Fall athletes. These meetings will take place on Monday, August 8, 2022. In these meetings, our athletes will learn how to manage their diet and exercise regimen for a successful season. Athletes will learn the "do's and don'ts" of their nutrition, for before, during, and after practices, and competitions this season. These are lessons that can be beneficial for a lifetime! Coaches will notify their parents and players of their assigned meeting times.
Athletic Event Tickets going Online for Dublin City Schools: This fall sports season Davis and all of the Dublin middle schools will be utilizing the online ticketing system provided by Hometown Ticketing. Dublin middle schools will be selling athletic tickets exclusively online. (No cash sales at the gates) A specific link and page on the Athletic Website will be created for fans to buy their single game tickets and even Family Passes for the year. The Davis Hometown ticketing page will go "live" on Tuesday, August 9, 2022. More details to come in the following week.

Forgotten/Lost Items & Communication
In the event that your child forgets to bring something to school and you need to drop it off (lunch money, homework, books, sports gear etc), you can come to the school and place it on the shelving unit in the entryway. Just mark it with your child’s name and put it on the shelf corresponding to their grade. We will do our best to get the item to the student. If possible, please let your student know that you have dropped it off so that they know to pick it up.
Lost and found at Davis can be found outside of the gymnasium. Items are placed in the bins in the music wing. Students should regularly check those bins if they have misplaced items.
Cell phones are not permitted in some parts of the building so your student may not have access to or be answering their cell phone during the school day.

District Updates
Masks Welcome During 2022-2023 School Year
Our plan is to start the school year as normal as possible. The District will comply with orders or mandates from agencies with jurisdiction. Absent an order, the administration will communicate recommendations or advisories and let parents make the decision that is best for their family.
COVID-19 will be treated as we have traditionally handled any infectious illnesses in our schools, each having specific exclusion criteria. Individuals with confirmed cases of COVID-19 should remain out of school for 5 days and may return on day 6 if symptoms have improved. We ask that individuals take personal responsibility for monitoring their health and the health of their family and stay home until they are feeling better.
The Dublin City School District ended the 2021-2022 school year without a mask mandate, and we were able to have critical face-to-face instruction. We will continue to be “mask welcome” at all grade levels.
