Jackson Families,

Spring is in the air! Can you believe the school year is already in the final quarter? This year has really flown by. This is the time of year when we get to enjoy many fun activities, such as Cinderella the Musical, Field Day (in May), concerts, dress-up days, etc. Please keep an eye on the calendar and upcoming events to stay up on all of the activities.

Summer Bridge Program

This summer, we will be partnering with Bristol Elementary School for our Summer Bridge Program (at Bristol Elementary). Specific students in grades K-4 will receive an invitation for this summer program.

Summer Bridge will run June 6-July 1, 8:00am-1:30pm. Breakfast (7:45-8:00) and Lunch will be served.

If students typically ride the school bus to Jackson each day, there will be a bus available to go to Bristol with a modified route schedule.

Stay tuned for more information!

CMAS (State Testing) for 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade

This month, we will begin CMAS state testing in English Language Arts and Math (and Science for 5th grade). This is required for all students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade.

Testing is scheduled from April 11 - 29 from 8:30-11:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday each week.

To support students with testing, we will have a Motivation Week (April 4-7) where students will participate in activities focusing on growth mindset and setting personal goals. Students will also learn testing protocols and interact with some practice tests, so they are comfortable when we begin the following week.

It is very important that your child attends school every day and arrives on time. If your child is absent during testing, they will have to make-up testing when they return and might miss important instruction or fun activities.

Ensuring students get a good night's rest is also important! We appreciate your support.

March Award Recipients-Trust & Self-Control

After a full semester of focusing on all R.O.A.R. (Respectful, On Task, Always Safe, and Responsible) expectations, we spent March focusing on the character traits of being Trustworthy and Showing Self-Control, which fall under Always Safe.

In April, we will focus on the final character traits of being Organized and showing Integrity which fall under Responsible.

Musically Speaking with Mr. Miller

As we head through the last quarter of the school year, Jackson Elementary will once again be alive with music.

These important dates are:

Friday, April 8th- Recorder Concert Program

This program will feature the third grade and third/fourth grade combo recorder classes (Howard, Morton and Gardner) at 6:00pm

Friday, May 10 – Instrumental Concert Program

This program will feature the 5th Grade Band and the 4th and 5th Grade Orchestra at 6:30pm.

We hope you can attend these wonderful music events. Thank you all for the encouragement you give to your students in appreciating music.

Musically yours,

Mr. Miller

Looking for something fun for your school-aged child over the summer?

Come see what the Jackson Adventure Club is offering for the summer!

They offer full or part time care, right here at Jackson. Students will participate in fun, summer activities to keep the mind and body busy. They will take 3 field trips each week and engage in fun-filled activities.

Please give Ms. Linda a call at (719) 548-9248 for more information. They hope to see you!!!

Field Day-May 6th

Field Day will be on Friday, May 6th from 8:15am to 10:55am. Many students look forward to this day all year!

The purpose of Field Day is for students to play and compete, but mostly have fun! Students are encouraged to wear sunscreen, dress in layers, wear a hat, bring a water bottle, etc.

Students have practiced very hard in Physical Education this year to develop their skills, and now it’s time to show off a little!

I am proud to say that this year, we are welcoming our parents/guardians back to Jackson's Field Day. Families are encouraged to attend, model good sportsmanship, and cheer on all of our Jaguar competitors. This day is a whole lot better when the “fans” show up!

Counseling Corner with Mrs. Ruiz

Dear Parents and Guardians,

CMAS testing is beginning the week of April 11th for students of 3rd, 4th and 5th Grades and will continue the week of Aprils 18th . Testing will be Tuesday-Thursday. Please make every effort to ensure your child is in attendance during these days so that they do not have to take multiple/make-up tests in one day. Here are some guidelines to help your child do their best:

  1. Make sure they are getting plenty of sleep the night before testing. This is not the week to let them stay up late to watch a movie or play video games.
  2. Make sure your child is here at school on time so they can eat breakfast and be ready to jump into testing.
  3. Encourage your child do do their best. This testing often determines what extra Reading and Math classes students will need to take in Middle School, and affects placement decisions.
  4. Help your child practice relaxing and deep breathing if they begin to experience anxiety or worry.
  5. Communicate with your child's teacher if you have any questions or concerns.
