School Culture and Behavior Expectations

We started this semester with grade-level meetings during the 1st period. Campus admin used this time to meet with students to reset campus expectations and our School Culture and Campus Behavior Expectations. In addition classroom teachers will review their individual classroom expectations. Please make sure your student is wearing the appropriate standardized dress and their school ID Badge everyday. You can review our standardized dress code on our school website. https://www.garlandisdschools.net/coyle/about/policies-procedures

Beginning Monday, January 9th, students without an ID badge will be subject to disciplinary consequences. Also, beginning Monday, students that need an ID badge must pay $5 to receive one. We only accept cash, no checks or credit cards.

TELPAS RESOURCES FOR FAMILIES

TELPAS TESTING WINDOW OPENS FEBRUARY 20 2023

Who takes the TELPAS Assessment?

Students in grades K-12 that have been identified as an EL (English Learner) are required to take TELPAS. This includes ELs whose parents have declined bilingual or English as a Second Language (ESL) program services.

What does the results tell you about your student?

TELPAS uses four proficiency ratings—Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced, and Advanced High—to show the progress students make in learning English from year to year. For students to reach their full academic potential, it is important for them to make steady progress in learning English. Your child’s proficiency ratings in listening, speaking, reading, and writing will give you a good idea about the progress he or she is making. Students who do not make steady progress may require additional assistance at school.

Your partnership and positive engagement is just as important to the success of our school community as our admin, teachers, staff, and students.

DRESS CODE

Ensure that your student is following all district and campus expectations (student code of conduct, dress code, technology policy, positive behavior expectations). When students cooperate with district and campus expectations, admin, teachers, and staff have more time to focus on providing students with an exceptional education instead of spending valuable time correcting misbehaviors. Every minute students spend in their academic environment increases their opportunities for success! You can review campus and district expectations by clicking the links below:

SCHOOL ID'S and PAW CARDS!

Please make sure that our students understand the importance of wearing an identification badge, please emphasize the importance of wearing their ID badge, and model GISD requirements as well using the Student PAW card presentation.

We are still working on a plan to get school IDs to new students and those who were not here on picture day. We will send out that information as soon as possible.
