News From Our 5th Grade Classroom 3/14/16

What's Happening in the Classroom

Subjects



Reading




In reading, we will continue Benchmark Unit 8 and we will focus on determining the author's purpose for writing several selections of text.


We will have our Unit 8 test on Friday, 3/18.


On Monday, March 14, your child will receive a take-home science test. This test will be due the Friday 3/18. Since this is less amount of time that is usually allotted for this test, I will dedicate some work time during the school week to this task.




Math



In math, we will continue supplemental lessons to unit 6. We will be concentrating different strategies for multiplying fractions and multiplying fractions and whole numbers.




Writing & Language Arts



In writing, we will continue a unit on word choice. We will be reviewing similes, metaphors, hyperbole, and personification.


In language arts, we will begin unit 6, which continues with punctuating dialogue, prepositions, and prepositional phrases.







Social Studies



In social studies, students will complete an American Revolution Important Individuals project. They should complete most of this project in class, however, it will become homework on Thursday it becomes apparent that they need more time. These projects are due on Friday.
