Jaguar News
Volume 1, Issue 10 - October 20, 2017
As I mentioned in last week's Jaguar News, this year we are focusing on student attendance, specifically on being on time to class. We really need your support in helping our students to be on time to class. Since September 4th, our students have been tardy to class (all periods) a total of 505 times. Our 6th graders seem to struggle the most being on time to class (202 combined tardies), and 1st period seems to be a challenge to many families, because we have 251 tardies during this period of time.
I want to take this opportunity to remind you that school starts at 7:30 AM. Students need to be in the building by 7:21 AM, that is when we dismiss them to go to their lockers and then to class. If you drop your student off after this time, they might not have enough time to get to their locker and then to class, therefore being late.
We appreciate your partnership with us, helping us make every student successful every day!
Red Ribbon Week ~ October 23rd- 27th, 2017
Gentry students will have the opportunity to join millions of Americans in showing their support for a healthy, drug-free lifestyle by celebrating Red Ribbon Week. The Red Ribbon Celebration Week is a way to show intolerance for drugs in our schools, work places and communities as well as to celebrate the drug-free lives of the youth of our country. Throughout the week Gentry students will be participating in various daily activities and lessons that will help to promote and further encourage this healthy way of life.

Fall Athletic Banquet
Our Fall Athletic Banquet will be held this coming Wednesday, October 25th from 6:30-8:00 pm in the GMS Cafetorium. Our coaches use this evening to wrap up fall athletics (Football/Volleyball/Cross Country, and Cheer Squad) by getting athletes, parents and coaches together one last time to enjoy cake, review some season highlights, and distribute awards. Hope to see you there!
Artist in Residence at Gentry
Our artists are collaborating with the other middle schools to create a moving ceramic sculpture that will be parentally installed in Columbia’s Family Center. We are hosting local ceramic artist Cassie Loos from Columbia’s Access Arts for inspiration as she leads us through her process. We are currently creating tiles with abstract designs representing their life and energy.

PTSA Notes
-PTSA wants to remind everyone that it's never too late to join. We have multiple committees still looking for help this school year. In particular, if you have an 8th grader, we need volunteers to assist with planning the end of the year activities for them. Please feel free to reach out to mandyllew@aol.com to get more involved.
-Our fundraiser will be kicking off next Monday. We will be selling Krispy Kreme donuts, so you can start getting excited! You will receive all information both by email and in the packet your student will bring home. We hope you are as excited about what we have to offer as we are!
-Congratulations to all of our fall sports and activities on an AMAZING season. Thank you to all of the players, coaches, and parents for their constant support and dedication to our school community. GO JAGS!!!
Media Center Minute
This week we want to provide more information on submitting assignments in Schoology. Last week we provided a video showing how parents can view submissions. This week we have a video from the student point of view. We are linking both videos for you to refer to. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your classroom teacher in regard to Schoology assignments.
