Reading for Fun - Tips to make this a reality for your child
We (teachers) have the benefit of teaching and watching children learn to read. This is such an exciting time as students move from using pictures to read to decoding the written language all around them. This ability to read truly is a SUPER POWER. It allows anyone the opportunity to go places and experience many exciting things! Our goal as a campus is to ignite a fire and a passion for Reading that goes beyond a purpose just for school. Unfortunately at times students may not have found the joy of reading for fun. Not to worry there are ways to help them find this joy!
Here are a few tips located on EdBlog to help make reading for fun a part of your child's life. (5 Simple Strategies.. To Encourage Reading for Pleasure)
1. Set reading challenges or goals - Parents and teachers should model doing this for themselves as well.
2. Read for pleasure at home - read a book together or apart and have a book club time to talk about what you liked best about the book. Children are never to old to be read to as well - it helps them hear good readers.
3. Carve out time to read daily - what we make time for shows we prioritize it.
Take time to help your child find what type of reading they like best. Book tasting and sampling is a great way to search and find an author or genre that speaks to them. For more ideas reach out to your child's teacher - we are here to support you!

Staff Spotlight
This week our spotlight is on our 2019 Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Kim. This year Mrs. Kim is teaching 4th grade. Here is what Mrs. Kim says about her experience as teacher and where she gets her motivation to serve her students:
“Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier,” stated Mother Teresa, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, who dedicated her entire life serving others. She is one of my favorite people who I am truly inspired by when I teach children everyday. As an educator, delivering information and serving students daily, I feel the need to permeate love and promote trust. Happy teachers create cheerful students. I believe that if my students know that I sincerely care about them, they for sure care about you as a teacher in return. So where do I receive my love and happiness from? Of course, from my dedicated family! My husband, Aram, one profound pianist, introduces my life with beautiful music as a fresh mint to refocus and find serenity in the midst of my hectic world. With my great passion for music, he fills my missing gaps so that I may enjoy life even more. As for my three precious daughters, Abigail, Ava and Aaliyah, they are the reasons why I am a faithful mother, passionate believer and strong achiever. Most importantly, “I can do all things through Him who gives me strength!” I feel extremely blessed and thankful to be who I am now! :)
We NEED You to share your passion for your career with our students!!

Dual Language Parent Meetings
We're trying to expand our reach and we think you can help by word-of-mouth. You may have a neighbor or friend who has an incoming Little Elm ISD kindergartner. We want them to know about our upcoming Dual Language parent meetings.
Dual Language is a Spanish and English two-way bilingual program that begins in kindergarten. Interested parents who have incoming kindergartners for the 2020-2021 school year should plan to attend one of two parent meetings: the first meeting is Wednesday, February 26, at Brent Elementary at 6:30 p.m.
The second meeting is Wednesday, March 25 at Oak Point Elementary at 6:30 pm! For more information about the District's Dual Language Program, visit our website at www.littleelmisd.net/duallanguage
