The discovery of Gold

In 1848 the first gold flakes where found in the Sacramento River Valley, this sparked a major Westward Expansion in the west of out new formed country

The Movement

The Gold Rush caused a major movement in the west. "In April 1847, reported the town (San Francisco) consisted of 79 buildings...by December 1849 the population had mushroomed to an estimated 100,000...".

The Luck of the Draw

Hundreds of thousands of people moved west in hope to strike it rich with gold, but only few men actually found gold. Most men didn't find anything and had hard times trying to get there lives back
