Tourette Syndrome
Biology Research Paper
Chronic Motor and Vocal Tic Disorder
Tourettes is a disorder that causes repetitive, sudden, and involuntary movements or noises called tics. These usually start during an early childhood and the severity varies over time, usually getting milder yet less frequent towards adulthood. The motor tics involve uncontrolled body movements and twitching such as rapid eye blinking, aggressive shoulder shrugging, and nose twitching. Vocal tics usually include random vocal outbursts. Tourettes is more of a mental disorder thats developed at a young age and can be considered to have aggressive traits.
Things That Are Involved With Tourettes
Individuals with tourette syndrome experience random muscle movements and vocal outburst that are usually aggressive and can get worse over time. Both motor and vocal tics can involve sudden anger within the individual, usually making them seem to be very aggressive. Motor tics tend to grow worse and start to involve more spasms and more than one muscle being involved, they can even progress to kicking, jumping, hopping, and spinning. Both of these types of tics vary in how often they happen, they can happen randomly throughout a single day or even just once in awhile throughout a year.
What Can Effect The Ways Tics Happen?
The random motor and vocal tics that happen through tourette syndrome can vary. Sometimes it depends on the location the individual is in. It can also depend on what other people are interacting or just near the individual. Most of the times it can simply be the type of scenario the person is in. These variants can also change the frequency these tics happen and cause them to be absent for periods of time ranging from days to months.
How Are Tourettes Inherited?
Decades of research have shown that tourettes are not developed through a single change in a gene, but actually inherited through a variety of environmental and genetic factors, sometimes they can be inherited though family traits. Tourettes can also be co-inherited with other disorders like OCD and ADHD. It could also involve sleeping and learning disorders.
Ways Tourettes Can Be Suppressed
While tourettes can reoccur for some people, it can be treated through both meditational and therapeutical ways. Personal therapy has been proven to be effective in individuals with tourettes as well as meditational methods.
