BSS Weekly Update
January 27th thru January 31st (Catholic Schools Week)
From the Desk of the Principal
Though Catholic Schools Week is a fun time with its theme dress days and special events, it is most importantly, a time for all of us to reflect on what makes Catholic schools so important and special in our society. The reason for this is, of course, the fact that Christ is central to everything we do at our school. Everyday at BSS our faculty and staff use their talents and faith to form all of our students into the amazing people God created them to be. By walking in the footsteps of our greatest teacher, Jesus, we all here at BSS work to make the world a better place one child at a time. There is no greater mission in our world than bringing our children closer to Christ and his teachings, and there are no places better at fulfilling this mission than Catholic schools. Because of Catholic schools the world is a kinder, more forgiving, and loving place. If we work everyday to teach our children to be the hands and feet of Christ in our world there is nothing we cannot accomplish here at BSS and beyond.
Have a great weekend and Happy Catholic Schools Week!
Blessings,
Dustin
Notes from Nancy
Catholic Schools Week is always a wonderful way to celebrate who we are as a community. This year in particular I think that we emulate the theme to Learn, Serve, Lead, and Succeed. Our Pennies for Patients collection for the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society has raised $781.91 in its first week of the campaign. We will share an update for week two at Monday’s morning assembly. This is truly amazing and a testimony that our actions as a community prove that we are all part of the Hero Squad that support others who need our help and prayers.
The NED Program that visited our school this week presented the power of a positive mindset. Everyone is heartened to Never give up. Encourage others. Do your best. I am sure that you have also noticed that we have a few more yo-yo experts in our midst. The Pay-It forward sales have been brisk and will continue through next week. Thank you all for your support with this initiative. Attached you will find NED’S Six Trix.
I am looking forward to celebrating CSW with all of you and I hope to see many of you at our Kick-off Mass this Sunday @ 9:30 a.m.
Best-
Nancy

The countdown is on! A little over two months until we turn back the clock and party like it's 1985. Planning is well underway and we have so many fun things planned for the event and leading up to it, we can't wait to share them with you! We will keep you in the loop as details become available but in the meantime, start talking it up with your friends and get excited for a totally awesome night out.
- Top Ten - We had a productive first Top Ten meeting last night and some great ideas came out of it. We want to keep the momentum going and will hold another meeting on Wednesday, February 5th at BSS. The Top Ten is meant to rally our community together to bring your talents, time and treasures to help create fun auction items for the event. Don't think you have anything to offer? Come to the meeting and you will be amazed at what you might have you have but never thought of!
- Sponsorships - Sponsorship opportunities and are a great way for companies to get name/logo recognition at our event. But you don't just have to own a business to be a sponsor! Families sponsorships are available as well and include tickets to the event. Please visit https:one.bidpal.net/bssauction2020 for more details.
- Tickets - Tickets for the Gala will be going on sale starting in early February. Keep your eye out for more information coming soon.

Volunteer Opportunities. The PC is looking for volunteers to help out with several different events this month. Earn valuable service hours with friends new and old!
Volunteers are needed to sort and count (physical) Box Tops on Thursday morning at 8:15 am on 01/30/2020 in the cafeteria. If you are interested, please use this Signup Genius link. Feel free to contact Lynne Bongette at lynnebong@verizon.net with any questions.
We are looking for a few helpers for next week's BSS Designer Purse Bingo. We will begin setup on 01/31/2020 at 11 am. We will also need general help in the late afternoon before the event and during bingo, as well as for cleanup. To register to help, use this Sign Up Genius link. Volunteers are also needed at the upcoming Park Street Book Fair on 02/05/2020, to help set the books up the day before the fair on 02/04/2020, and to assist with data entry tasks associated with the fair (which can be done from home). Catholic Schools Week kicks off on 01/26/2020 with a community Mass on Sunday. Be sure to check Principal Demers’ email with the full schedule of events for this week. Some highlights include 1980s Dress Day on Monday, 1/27, Pajama Day on Tuesday, 1/28 and early release on Friday, 1/31.
Box Tops for Education. As the numbers of physical Box Tops dwindle, our “call for collections” is coming less frequently, however, please know that you can continue to send these in with your students at any time! Please send in any physical Box Tops for Education that you have collected to date as homeroom teachers are being asked to send them in to the office first thing on Thursday, 01/30/2020. Expiration dates on Box Tops do matter so please send them in regularly as the program will continue to honor physical Box Tops until they expire. During this transition please download the Box Tops for Education App on your smartphone or tablet computer and scan your shopping receipts so that we can continue to earn money through this valuable program. BSS recently received a check for ~$1,200.00 from Box Tops. However, there has been a drop off in earnings with the transition to the digital program. Please let us know if you need any help with the app. Remember, there will be a call for screen shots of your year-to-date earnings within the app toward the end of the school year, and the homeroom bringing in the most digital Box Tops money earns a chance to dare Mr. Demers or Mrs. Carroll! So please keep scanning and stay tuned for more information toward the end of the school year!
Monster Mini Golf Fundraiser. January 31st is an early release day, so why not make the most of it by having fun at mini golf? Monster Mini Golf in Norwood is donating 50% of sales earned on 01/31/2020 between 2p-8pm to Blessed Sacrament School. Bring your family and friends for a fun afternoon of mini golf and games, and be sure to mention you want your purchases to support Blessed Sacrament School. Psst...Dads...this would be a great family outing while some Moms are at Designer Purse Bingo! (See below).
BSS Designer Purse Bingo. Tickets for Designer Purse Bingo on 01/31/2020 are now sold out. Thank you to everyone for their support of this fun evening!
February Dine Around: The February Dine Around will take place at Conrad’s in Walpole on 02/03/2020. 15% of sales will be donated back to Blessed Sacrament School to support our community. Mark your calendars and stay tuned for more details!
BSS Green Team Registration Open. The BSS Green Team is a fun way to get your child involved in understanding the importance of protecting our environment and learning ways they can make a difference! The Green Team will meet after school a few times in a parent-run group, and Green Week will take place in April. To register your child, or to sign up as a volunteer, use this link. If you have questions, please feel free to email this event’s coordinator, Stacy Coyne at staceyacoyne@gmail.com.
