Adams Family movie and board game night
Movie night!! Come join us tonight at 6:00 at Adams for a family movie and board game night!
The APA is hosting a FREE fun night of hanging out and enjoying some time together as a community, so bring the whole gang!
We will have two movie options, Horton Hears a Who! (G) will be showing in the gym and Boss Baby(PG) will be playing in the library. We will also have board games in the art room.
Feel free to bring snacks, sleeping bags, comfy cushions and low backed seats so you can kick back and relax!
This is NOT a drop off event, parents must attend with their children! We hope to see you there!
Pe and wellness news
The first third of the class was a gym-wide set of obstacles and challenges: rope swing, burpies, hurdles, rolls, bear walks, etc... The second third was a Freeze/Thaw tag game where taggers froze runners and thawers unfroze them. The last third of the class was a hockey drill in which students skated with the puck and after a signal, they shot on a goal.
WELLNESS NEWS
Student miles keep mounting. Sixty children have reached 50K, or 31 miles. Twenty six are past 50. In March, we start Wellness Month with lots of different things going on. Here's another reminder that The Dream Big Challenge asks kids to run/walk 26 miles, read 26 books, and do 26 acts of kindness. Recording sheets are coming home March 2. We will also participate in the American Heart Association Kids Challenge. The most important part of the is learning about heart health and being active. A brochure is coming home March 2 and some of you might see a reminder from the AHA if you participated last year.
Box tops
Each Box Top clip is worth 10 cents...and they add up! There are 2 ways to collect and donate your Box Tops. Box Tops for Education is going digital, and in the transition they are accepting both clips and scans.
If your package has a traditional Box Top clip, cut it off and send it into school.
If your package has a Scan Your Receipt Box Top, download the free Box Tops for Education App, set your school for Adams Elementary School, and scan your grocery receipts. It's fast and easy!
The next Box Tops submission is due March 1st, but we will be accepting Box Tops all year.
OBOB
Official OBOB Battles began February 10th and will be held during morning recess (9:45-10:05) until Feb 26th. It is a double-elimination battle system, so each team will be able to have 2 battles before they would be eliminated. Some eliminations have already occurred. We will announce our winner that will go on to Regionals on February 26th.Parents are welcome to come and watch but no videotaping is allowed. Battles and locations will be posted on the glass display case. Remind your child to check the display case DAILY & keep on reading those BOOKS!!!
Green Team News!
Each Thursday a group of 4th and 5th graders gather for Green Team. We have been very busy working on our Green School goals and other projects. So far we've made posters for the cafeteria reminding students not to waste food, educated students in how to use the sharing table, made presentations to classes about best practices in recycling, and made periodic checks to see how well classes are recycling.
Each month we will award the Recycling Trophy (a beautifully transformed 2-liter plastic bottle) to the class who has done the best job recycling. Green Team members check all classes each week to see if there is any garbage or non-recyclable material contaminating it.
Right now the team is creating a huge sign for the school garden embellished with plastic bottle caps. Check out our ongoing progress in the front entryway display case. We are still about 1,000 bottle caps short, so please collect caps and turn them into the office. There's a bucket right on the front counter. Thank you!
Volunteer training
Interested in Volunteering at Adams?
Please contact echo.rue@corvallis.k12.or.us and attend a monthly training.
We will cover how to use the copier and laminating machine and general school information and then if you are interested you can also have a library orientation and training if you would like to help in the library too. The next volunteer trainings will be held on Monday March 16 from 12:30-1:00pm and Monday April 13 from 12:30=1:00pm. Please meet in the office and have completed the online volunteer application with background check online prior to volunteering (available on the school website).
ALL VOLUNTEERS- SAVE THE DATE! In this season of gratitude, we are planning ahead to hold a Volunteer Appreciation Event Wednesday May 13th from 7:30-8:30am. A short program will begin at 7:30 until the first bell. Then we will continue with a coffee social until 8:30 in the Library. We love our Volunteers at Adams!
