We understand the importance of balancing different aspects of our lives - intellectual, physical, and emotional - to achieve well -being for ourselves and others. We recognize our interdependence with other people and with the world in which we live.

Exhibition Happenings

The students are in the throws of inquiring into their exhibition topics. They have begun to meet with their mentors and are creating and re-creating questions that will take them into a deeper inquiry of their central idea:

Economics contribute to personal and societal decision making.

Below you will find the documents that the students are working with to support their inquiries.

Do you have a resource that connects to the central idea (above), or the topics (below)? If so, contact Mrs. Lebovitz, PYP Coordinator, at kclebovitz@cps.edu. We would love to have you involved.

Support for Inquiry at Home

Do you know how to use SOAR (the Online Library System)?

Your children do! So have them teach you, or use these two pieces of information to learn more!

How can you support inquiry at home?

Ask about what your child is learning in class - "Here are 30 Questions to Ask Your Kid Instead of How Was Your Day."
  • Support and encourage interest and curiosity by following up with activities at home.
  • Encourage and practice good communication skills such as starting conversations and debates about current events.
  • Help your kids develop research skills online and from text.
  • Enjoy building projects together in the home.

Learner Profile Focus: BALANCED

MYP Students were asked who they thought best exemplified the Learner Profile trait of being BALANCED. Here is what they had to say:

Carla Canchola- MYP Year 1

I think that Carla Canchola is BALANCED. She is always focused on her school work but she also has things to do outside of school. She works hard to complete her school work and get good grades. She does, however, know how to keep a good conversation going. This is why I recommend Carla for balanced.

-Violet Payne, MYP Year 1

Mariah Rush-MYP Year 2

I am an IB balanced student because I keep my work done. I try my best to get everything turned in on time. I try my best to keep my grades up as much as I can and I work hard in class.

Michelle Page- MYP Year 3

She is kind and caring, and tries to help out. She works her hardest and tries to be positive.

-Jaylin Newcombe, MYP Year 3

Congratulations to Wendy Gutierrez, Olukemi Adelakun (not pictured), and Andrea Korte, the winners of the Kiwanis Club of the North Shore, Rev. John Hudson Citizenship Essay Contest for 8th Graders. The topic this year was “An Influential Elder”. Students were asked to discuss how an older person (someone other than a parent) has influenced their life. Each winner was treated to lunch at the Fireside Inn on Tuesday, May 14th and received a cash prize. Keep up the great work, Peirce writers!
