Dear Hillcrest Community,
February is a busy academic month. Our English Learner students from grades K-6 are taking the ELPAC summative assessment. Several teachers are serving as ELPAC teacher administrators. Ms. Andrea Calderon is also assessing our EL students in Grades K-1.
Our 6th Graders spent February 8 - February 10 at Astro Camp. The students were immersed in rigorous and engaging Science lessons. All students and chaperones enjoyed the trip. Thank you M. Rodriguez for making the unforgettable trip happen for our students.
Safety continues to be a focus at Hillcrest Elementary. This month, our staff will be trained by the Monterey Park Police Department on LockDown drills. All students and staff will participate in our monthly fire drill. Our students have been demonstrating an excellent job and understanding of the evacuation procedures during our fire drills.
Our parking and traffic safety during our morning arrival and after-noon pickup continues to be an area of concern. We recognize that parking can be challenging before and after school, but it is important for the safety and well-being of our community that we follow all parking and traffic rules. Parking and traffic violations can impact the safety of our students, families, and neighbors. Together, we can make our school a safe and happy place.
On Wednesday Feb 15th we will be honoring Hillcrest's PTA Founders Day recipients: Mr. Anthony Toy, Ms. Irene Jauregui, Ms. Felicia Van Vacter, and Ms. Teresa Rodriguez.
We wish everyone a lovely Valentine's Day and a safe and restful 4 - day weekend. School will be closed on Friday Feb 17 and Monday Feb 20 in observance of Lincoln's Birthday and Presidents Day
