A Year in the Life
Co Carlow Chamber honouring Carlow Businesses
Inches AWeigh
Inches A weigh, Ladies Fitness centre will be 5 years in business on 1st October 2013. (Please god). We are a small family run business with myself Linda Callinan, my sister Trish Lacken and my daughter Shanice helps out during midterm and summer holidays.
We are located just off the O'Brien road opposite Enterprise House. We open 9am-9pm Monday to Thursday 9-7 on Friday and 9-12 on Saturday.
The Service We Provide
Inches A Weigh is a Ladies Fitness Centre. We provide a full body workout in 40 minutes using hydraulic resistance machines which combines all the components of a complete workout including Cardiovascular training (to strengthen Heart & Lungs) strength training (to make muscles leaner) and flexibility (stretching).
We provide a variety of classes – Step, aerobics, Hula Hoop, boot camp, Rip: 60. All classes are available to non members as well as members.
We have also introduced the latest craze Zumba® fitness classes – a Latin inspired dance fitness workout that has got millions of people of the couch and into gyms, community halls schools and even pools.
We also provide free supervised childcare so that mums who have no one else to mind their kids can still come in to work out and meet other mums.
Our mission is to help women to lead a healthier lifestyle, improve their confidence, self esteem and help them to feel good about themselves again. We help women to lose weight; tone up, de-stress after a hard day’s work and also provide a friendly face for someone who may not see anyone else all day.
The HARDEST PART of getting FIT is getting STARTED!!
Our community is very important to us and we try to give back as much as possible, and get everyone working together.
In November 2008 we hosted a sandwich day in aid of Self Help Africa.
We try to help out other businesses raising funds for charity by offering prizes for their raffles in the form of free memberships.
In March 2010 we held a pink ladies night, beauticians and manicurists donated their time to give ladies treatments for a small donation. We raised €546 on that night.
We had a biggest loser challenge in 2010 and members paid to enter and all money was given to charity if members did not reach their goals. While most reached their goals all money was given to the Carlow Kilkenny homecare team, a total of €180.
In October 2013 we had a pampering ladies day for our 4th Birthday, and we raised €715 for Eist.
We have a yearly 10k mini marathon on the bank holiday Sunday in May In aid of the children’s Leukaemia research project and a local charity. We have raised €25,736 over the last few years and have donated some of the proceeds to Delta Centre, Saplings School, Rape Crisis Centre & Carlow Women’s Aid.
This year we raised €5516.61 with some of the money going to Talk it Over.
We had a very successful Pan Celtic festival in April this year where we celebrated the Celtic Cultures of Ireland, Isle of Man, Wales, Brittany, Cornwall and Scotland in music song dance and language of which we were very proud to be a part of.
We participate in the local St Patricks Day parade with some of the members and their children doing a hula hoop demo all around the town.
We also participated in A Taste of Carlow with other local businesses displaying their arts and crafts and fine foods. We did a Zumba ®Fitness demo which got the crowd going and provided some entertainment.
Inches A Weigh is not just a business to us it is like an extension of our family. The members are lovely women from all walks of life who share the same interest and have the same goal-
A happy healthy lifestyle!!!
