Mrs. Baker's Class Newsletter-
September 22, 2016
What is going on?
Writing: Students will finish publishing their personal narratives and share them with the class. Would anyone be willing to donate cookies for our Author Celebration next week? Please contact me if you can.
Spelling Words this week: about, could, many, out, some, that, them, when
Reading: In Reader’s Workshop, we will be looking at strategies that help us to have strong comprehension. Our focal point will be inferring. We are going to be using background knowledge and text clues to make an inference. This will help students better understand what they are reading.
Math: In math we will work on place value, comparing numbers, expanded and standard forms, number brain teasers, and adding larger numbers. Children will be offered lots of choice next week! Students will choose math menus (on level or challenge) to complete a variety of number activities. Each menu will provide 9 different thinking challenges that will be completed in the order each child chooses.
Science: Students will classify matter by physical properties, including shape, relative mass, relative temperature, texture, flexibility, and whether material is solid or liquid.
We are needing some supplies donated for next week. If you could donate: two bags of gummy worms, and a bag of balloons. I would be very thankful!
