Welcome to the first edition of the Dallas ISD Parents Newsletter from the Family and Community Engagement Office! We are thrilled to have the opportunity to connect with our parents and community members each month and share exciting news, valuable resources, and upcoming events. Our goal is to keep you informed and engaged in your child's education journey while providing you with opportunities to get involved in our schools and community.
In this newsletter, you will find information tailored to parents and guardians, including updates on academic programs, resources for student success, and tips for supporting your child's learning at home. We will also highlight events and opportunities for families to get involved in our schools and community, such as volunteer opportunities and family-friendly events.
We are committed to building strong partnerships between our schools, families, and community members, and this newsletter is just one way we hope to strengthen those relationships. We encourage you to read each edition and provide us with feedback and suggestions for future topics.

FAM JAMS ARE BACK!
The Fam Jam event of the season is happening on September 23rd, at Thomas Jefferson High School and you don't want to miss it. This year, Fam Jam is bringing you a whole host of exciting activities that will keep both parents and students entertained.
For the academic-minded, we've got a range of academic activities that will challenge and engage students of all ages. Whether your little ones are just starting out in kindergarten, or they're gearing up for college applications, we've got something for everyone. Plus, we know that learning can make you hungry, so we're also offering free breakfast for all attendees.
But Fam Jam isn't just about academics. We're also bringing you student entertainment that will have you tapping your toes and bobbing your head. From live music to dance performances, there's something for everyone at Fam Jam. And if that's not enough, we're also offering immunizations for students who need them. It's never too late to make sure your family is protected, and at Fam Jam, you can do it all while having a great time.
So mark your calendars and get ready to jam with the whole family. Fam Jam is back, and it's better than ever!

Elevated Engagement with Dallas ISD is a weekly podcast created for Dallas ISD parents in English and Spanish to educate and create awareness for new initiatives and trending topics within the district. Discover Dallas
The Office of Transformation and Innovation (OTI) and Communication Services invites you to the 2023 Discover Dallas ISD school shopping event at W.H. Adamson High School, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023. This event gives families an opportunity to explore school offerings, preview all choice and application-based schools, and receive support submitting applications on-site. Representatives from OTI choice and application-based schools will be onsite to answer questions and offer information on their campuses. For more information visit DallasISD.org/Discover.

Food and Child Nutrition Services
The Dallas ISD Food and Child Nutrition Services department has joined forces with the federal government to recognize programs for children and adults. The Child and Adult Care Food Program emphasizes meal quality, nutrition education, and the overall wellness of its childcare providers, children, and parents/caregivers. At Dallas ISD we are committed to providing nutritious and delicious foods at no cost to all enrolled students.
District News
Dallas ISD Schools Voted Best in the State:
- Recently, U.S. News & World Report released their annual rankings of the best schools in Texas, and the Dallas Independent School District (ISD) came out on top. According to the report, Dallas ISD not only had the best schools in the state but also had some of the best schools in the entire country. This is a huge accomplishment for the district, which has been working hard to improve student outcomes and provide high-quality education to all students. Read more here.
Student Caught Vaping? DAEP Required:
- The Student Code of Conduct (SCoC) of Dallas ISD was revised by the Board of Trustees during its meeting on August 24, in order to comply with the recently passed Texas House Bill 114 (HB114). Starting from September 1, 2023, if any student is found carrying a vape device within 300-feet of school property, on campus, or at a school-sponsored event, they will be required to be places in DAEP.
