Eleanor Roosevelt Students Are All Heart!
Fourth-grade students at Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary School recently put together Cardiac Care Waiting Room Bags for their monthly service project. The bags, which the students decorated, contain a handwritten card with words of encouragement, a water bottle, snacks, pencil, paper, and tissues. They will be given to local families with loved ones undergoing cardiac surgeries. The monthly student service project initiative is led by Mrs. Winslade and is made possible thanks to a generous grant through the Pennsbury Education Foundation. Keep up the great work, everyone!
SPARK-Golf Challenge at Quarry Hill Elementary School
Fore!!! First-grade students in Mrs. Obert-Thorn's SPARK class at Quarry Hill Elementary School created their own mini-golf course as a part of their Culminating Forces Unit. Students had to choose a theme, design, and build a pizza box golf hole with a partner that included an obstacle and some sort of friction. The end results were creative, colorful, and most of all, fun!
Pennwood Open Doorways Club
Dr. Smith, Superintendent of Schools, and Dr. Cherrisa Gibson, Director of Equity, Diversity, and Education, recently paid a visit to the Pennwood Open Doorways Club. The mission of this after-school club is to improve the school climate for all students, especially marginalized groups, by providing more positive experiences at Pennwood. These experiences help students to feel more connected and create a sense of belonging within the school community, often resulting in fewer student absences. The club, led by teacher Stacy Kirsh and school counselor Meredith Naskiewicz also aims to make students feel safe and free from being singled out or bullied.

PHS Students Achieve Certification in Social Media & Digital Marketing
Congratulations to Pennsbury High School students Ava Kusler (10th-grade), Mahi Patel (9th-grade), James Schaffer (10th-grade), Tyler Stewart (10th-grade), Ava Storlazzi (10th-grade), and Emilee Tomczyk (10th-grade) on recently becoming certified in Social Media and Digital Marketing.
The students opted to take the certification test following their enrollment in Social Media and Digital Marketing during the first semester. Students learned how to write targeted social media ads, perform demographic targeting, learn social media promotional strategies, and create content calendars throughout the course. The course is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge to plan, create, and implement effective social media and digital marketing campaigns for small businesses, corporations, government agencies, and non-profit organizations.
The certification proves students are competent and skilled in applying social media marketing techniques. They have been tested on best practices and experience managing social media campaigns, implementing data analysis techniques, making data-driven decisions relative to revenues and profits, and making report-based strategy adjustments.
Pennwood Students Use Mindfulness & Movement to Help Others
Students in Mrs. Shafer's class at Pennwood Middle School have taken their mindful and movement breaks to a new level by joining UNICEF Kid PowerⓇ, an online video platform that "unlocks impact" for global communities as well as opportunities to impact our local community. Each day, the students choose a video from categories such as Social-Emotional, Yoga & Meditation, Dance, and Sports/Fitness. Each time the class participates in the video activity, they earn pieces of a star. Once the star is full, UNICEF Kid PowerⓇ donates one RUTF (Read to Use Therapeutic Food) packet to people in need globally, and the students also earn coins. The coins can be used to donate to local organizations. Recently, the class donated their coins to feed families in need through Feed America. They can also choose to have a tree planted, provide masks for local healthcare workers, or provide free internet access for a family in need in our community.
The class first learned about Kid PowerⓇ through News2You which is part of a program designed for students who learn differently to access news on a national and global scale. Once Mrs. Shafer read about it with her students, she knew it was perfect for her kids.
"They are incredibly generous and thoughtful and always want to help others. Now they get to help others by helping themselves. They look forward to continuing to make a difference and hopefully inspire others to do the same," said Mrs. Shafer.
PHS Students Take Part in 10th Annual MLK Peace and Social Justice Summit
More than 120 students, educators, and parents from across the county recently gathered virtually to honor the Reverand Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the 10th annual MLK Peace and Social Justice Summit, hosted by the Peace Center.
