Bullets and Ballets Simulation
Summative Assessment
What groups are involved, who had the power?
Originally, the group with the highest power, or MSU's was the army and the wealthy. The other groups involved were the Guerilla's, a group of rebels going against the A&W. The Guatemalan gov't, the peasants, the US, and the when the Guerilla's brought them into it, the Cuban gov''t.
How the balance of power shifted and why?
Yes, the power of balance of power shifted when different groups made different decisions to do things with their MSU's. Different occasions caused the groups to do different things with their MSU's and have other groups pull ahead in the rankings. The balance of power shifted because it depends on how strong your military is, and that controls how well you will do.
How was cooperation and conflict shown in the game (violence/corruption/war)?
In the beginning of the game the A&W were corrupted. Conflict was shown throughout the whole game, from the A&W and the Guerillas, they were in constant conflict with each other. The guerilla's would get more MSU's and that would affect the A&W, in mostly negative ways, because the Guerilla's wanted to take over the A&W and kill them. Corruption was shown when I was killed the first day, by the A&W because the had more powerand MSU's
What role did the US have on the simulation?
Throughout the entire game, the US was the mediator between the Guerilla's and the Army and Wealthy. When the Guerilla's pulled ahead of the A&W by 60 MSU's the US stepped in and gave the A&W their 60 MSU's to tie the Guerilla's. The Guerilla's then drew an attack card, and attacked the A&W and the A&W drew an attack card but it only came to a draw. The Guerilla's then proceeded to annihilate the A&W giving the US reason to either join the Guerilla's or annihilate them. The Guerilla's were killed by the US in the end and the US decided that killing the Guerilla's would be the best thing, for the remaining people of Guatemala.
What happens to a country when power shifts, is the effect positive or negative?
How the power shifts will determine if the effect is negative or positive. Depending on the group and their decisions, it could be positive or negative. If groups make treaties, the general outcome is positive for those two groups. Other groups can be negatively effected by groups decisions if they aren't allied.
Apply this information to YOUR LIFE! What relationships do you have in your life, and how are cooperation and conflict evident?
Cooperation and conflict relate to my life, because when I behave and get good grades, I cooperate with my parents and we both get what we want. Conflict happens within my family when I fail tests, and don't do what they ask me. Just like how conflict happens within different groups and there are reactions from the actions of other people; that is how different information applies to several areas of my life.
