Chromebooks

All Chromebooks and the chargers need to be returned this week during your student’s Expository Reading & Writing, ELD, or AVID class, which is on one of the block days (Wednesday or Thursday). Please ensure your student brings these to school on the appropriate day.

Permission Slips

Last week I sent out an email and provided 8th students permission slips for Field Day and early release after graduation practice. It also included all details for graduation events. Just in case you didn’t receive either, I have attached the document below. On Friday, most 6th and 7th graders also received the same two permission slips included in this document for Field Day. Permission slips are due this Friday, May 31, 2019.

Volunteer Breakfast

If you haven’t already, please fill out the link below for the Volunteer Breakfast if you plan on attending. It is this Thursday, May 30, from 8:30-9:30 am in the library. There was an issue with the link, but it is fixed.

Hoover Visits Kennedy

On Friday, ninety Hoover kindergartners and first graders came to Kennedy for a STEAM field trip. They saw the construction site (which ties to one of the units they are studying), saw the Choir, String Quartet, and Advanced Band perform, and participated in a STEAM project. They concluded the visit by hanging out with our WEB leaders to eat lunch and play. It was a fun and exciting morning.

Thank You, Community Best

On Friday, Kennedy and Hoover, each received a $1,000 donation check for our growing STEAM and Makerspace programs. Thank you, Community Best, for supporting Kennedy! (We already had the field trip planned way in advance and found out about the donations about a week ago, which was a timely coincidence).
Big picture

Sports Update From Mr. Haynes

Fundraising:

If you have not done so already, please return your fundraising candy money ($60) or opt out ($30) to Mr. Haynes in room 527 as soon as possible. There is a great chance our teams will win the Championship this season, and the fundraising goes towards paying for the championship banner.

End-of-Season BBQ:

The end of the season BBQ will be held on Sunday, June 2nd, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on the Kennedy Field. The BBQ is for all teams and is potluck-style, with each team responsible for an item and the athletic department providing the bbq meats. Also, be prepared for the parent and coaches vs players soccer match!!!

End-of-Season Awards:

Thursday, June 6, is the Spring Sports Awards Assembly at 11 am on the Kennedy Field. (The gym is closed due to graduation decorating).

Free Books For Summer Reading

Students who are 13+ years old can download two books per week for FREE over the summer. (This does require downloading the Overdrive app or software to a personal device.) Here is the link: https://www.audiobooksync.com/ (Thank you, Ms. Cindy Wilson, for sharing this).

Cookies Brand

Safe and Smart Choices at Drop Off/Pick Up

A reminder again to make good choices when you drop off your student. Please do not drop your student off on the opposite side of the street because students are walking right in front of cars often without looking and almost getting hit. Please encourage your student to use the crosswalks if you must drop off on the other side of the street. Also, be mindful of using neighbors’ driveways to turn around, and make sure you are not blocking their driveways.

Summer Music

We are offering some free summer music lessons again this summer for our students. Instead of Saturdays though, Mrs. Federico-Youngs would like to try something different. Please see the attached schedule. If you have any questions, please reach out to her directly.

Support Kennedy!

Thank you in advance for your generosity in helping the Kennedy PTO raise up to $30K in support of our students and community! Donate Now or put a check in the PTO box in the school office. No contribution is too small!

8th Grade Graduation Festivities

8th grade graduation events are almost here. Your kids will participate in a day trip to Great America, the graduation dance, field day events and the graduation ceremony, including gowns for all kids. These wonderful events take money to produce and we are asking for donations of $75 per child to cover the costs. Without your donation we won’t be able to make all of these events happen. Please make a contribution today so we can make your child’s graduation from Kennedy a memorable one!

  • Make a $75 contribution by credit card or PayPal account using this link: https://bit.ly/2DeBrJf. Please include you child’s name in the comments.
