Positive Behaviour 4 Learning (PB4L)
Strategies for teaching our children Emotional Literacy
Just like learning to read, write, ride a bike, fold our PJs, managing our emotions is something we learn.
This week's Turtle Strategy is a starting point and help's tamariki to recognise and name their feeling and gives a simple breathing exercise.
Have fun - practice this when all is well then it will be more natural in the heat of the moment. (Works for adults too.)
It's competition time at home in the holidays too!
We would love for you to show us how you use kia kaha (do your best), kia māia (be courageous) or kia manawanui (have a heart) outside of school.
To enter our competition send in a photo or short video to cwigley@puketapu.school.nz and tell us what value you are showing.
To get in the draw to win a prize make sure your photo or video is in by Sunday the 17th of October (the last day of the school holidays). Your picture may be displayed around the school, in a school values video, or be placed in the newsletter.

Please encourage your children and whanau to take part in this opportunity - go have a clean up around home, clean up and pick up litter from your local park, go to the beach and see what litter you can find. PUKETAPU PENGUINS
On Friday night the Puketapu Penguins basketball team were crowned champions of their league! The players showed lots of nerves early in the game and were down for all of the second and third quarters. However, the players stepped up in the fourth, played lockdown defense, crashed boards and made the buckets count to win 39-32. Well done to them for their season long efforts, they trained hard and played even harder. Recording their best season over the last four years with only dropping two games and securing a championship title. Player awards will be announced at a later date. Mahi pai!
