NO BULLY
Parents and Guardians of Middle School Students,
October is National Bullying Prevention Month! Common language is important; it is critical to understand what bullying is and what it is not. Experiencing conflict is a natural part of growing up - bullying is not, and Berlin Middle School prides itself on addressing bullying behavior at the earliest stages. One of many school responsibilities is to help guide our students through the process of conflict-resolution and creating and maintaining a safe learning environment free from harassment, intimidation, and bullying.
This link is provided to better understand what bullying is:

and what it is not:

While not every reported case of bullying is actually that, the staff at BMS is supportive of each and every student who believes they have been a victim of bullying. We encourage students to report early; they should speak with their School Counselor, Ms. Anne Lazarony.

6th Grade Students Experience Archeology
On Friday, September 26th, Claire Pettit attended Ms. Rightmyer’s sixth grade Social Studies classes. Ms. Pettit has been working at a local archeological association for the past six months. She is currently working on a dig in the town of Bethlehem. Ms. Pettit received her Masters in History from the University of Albany in 2014. She has interned at the Mabee Farm and enjoys sharing her knowledge of history and archeology with students across the Capital Region. Ms. Pettit shared her knowledge of archeology and experiences she’s had in the field with the sixth graders.
7th Grade Students and Environmental Science @ Grafton Lakes State Park
On October 1st, Seventh grade students travelled to Grafton Lakes State Park and participated in a variety of environmental activities; these activities focused on ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies standards as well as helping guide them in their understanding of how care and concern for the environment can lead to careers in science.
Students used dichotomous keys for identifying local trees and leaves, learned map skills to understand terrain and hiked to locations.
At the careers station, employees discussed careers and job responsibilities in the State park system. Students debated environmental issues and discussed how they would plan park usage for the future with the Park Naturalist. Students also looked at nature up-close and wrote poetry in perspective. Students enjoyed meeting new people, working together, and being outdoors.
Thank you to Mrs. Vanderhoef and others for making this trip possible.
