-Ferris Bueller's Day Off

JUNE 1: SENIOR AWARDS DINNER (by invitation only)

You provide the dinner; we'll provide the awards ;) Invitations were sent to your school email account on Friday, May 22nd. Monday at 6:00 pm, the link to the awards ceremony will be posted on the school website. At this hour-long event, award and scholarship winners will be announced by various teachers and staff, and the physical certificates, etc. will be given to you at cap and gown distribution on June 3rd. After your dinner and awards, why not make it an evening and watch Ferris Bueller's Day Off with your classmates? You can access the movie on Netflix, pop some corn, and chat with each other online...who says we can't have fun separately but apart?

June 3: Cap and Gown Distribution

Students need to report to the west parking lot (closest to First Street) at their assigned time (see the chart below). SVPD will be present to help direct traffic, so please follow their directions. We ask that students write their name in large, clear printing on an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper to display on their car windshield. Follow the instructions of the staff as they direct you through the drive-through to pick up your cap, gown, and any awards you are receiving. These will be handed to you through the car's front passenger window. At no time should you exit your vehicle. Staff assisting will have gloves and masks for public health safety. If you are missing any items, still owe money, or need to make a purchase, you will be directed off to the side of the parking lot to meet with our Josten's representative.

Seniors, we ask that you do not decorate your graduation cap.

JUNE 4: Senior Shop @ the Student Store

For your convenience, the student store will be open from 9 AM - 1 PM. Whether it be a stuffed Scotty dog, a key chain, or your senior's first RHS Alumni shirt, the Highlander Supply Co. is here for you to purchase one final graduation gift. Social distancing requirements will be enforced, so please follow the taped spacing guidelines on the ground.

Today is the day!! Graduation Day will consist of three parts:

There is one car permitted per graduate (graduate should be wearing their cap, gown, and awards if any), and graduates should be the front passenger of their car for prime positioning to receive their diploma (feel free to decorate your car!). Other family members from the same household may be in the car, but no motor homes, stretch limousines, or cars with trailers will be allowed. There are some tight turns that must be made, so extra long vehicles will not be able to make them. All other family and friends should secure a place along the parade route and may view the live streaming of the event taking place at Royal. Streaming is provided by Kutz Music and accessible at (the two letters before the capital L are lowercase L's) or by scanning the QR Code and viewed on any mobile, tablet, computer, Apple TV, Amazon Firestick, Roku, and most app enabled smart TVs.

Students must report to the west parking lot (the lot closest to First Street) at the assigned time (see schedule below). SVPD will have the lane closest to the school closed. Follow their instructions as they "stage" you for the procession. Each student will be given a 3x5 index card to legibly print their name and phonetic pronunciation and a car flag. At the appropriate time, each car will be directed through the procession which will take the students back out to Royal Ave. and re-enter the stadium parking lot. Here, students will be greeted with pomp and circumstance and proceed through the ivy chain and some staff in ceremonial dress cheering for the graduates (again social distancing guidelines will be in place). At a designated spot, the student will present the 3x5 card, have their name announced over the live streaming, and proceed around the perimeter of the decorated parking lot. Along the way, their diploma will be presented by our principal, Mr. Derrick, and each graduate will receive two copies of the printed graduation program. Our favorite DJ, Cody, from Winter Formal will be playing their favorite tunes, and images from this year will be projected on a giant screen.

As the graduates proceed around the parking lot toward the exit, they will fall in line behind 10 classic cars from the Coachman Car Club. They will escort the graduates up Erringer Rd. to the parade route in front of the Simi Town Center where family and friends await to cheer (see instructions below). The best place for family and friends to view will be along Simi Town Center Drive between Erringer and First Street on the same side of the street as the mall. While you are waiting for the parade to arrive, tune into the live-streaming to see what is happening at Royal and hear the graduates' names announced. When the final car is exiting the stadium parking lot at Royal, 10 additional classic cars will end the parade, essentially book-ending the Class of 2020 with 20 classic cars, symbolizing that this graduating class is a class act - never to be repeated! The classic cars will also signal to the parade viewers the start and end of our procession of graduates. Once graduates arrive at First Street, the end of the parade route, they will proceed home to watch the premiere of the virtual commencement. Graduates will not be permitted to stop and congregate at the mall.

Our SVPD will be on hand to assist and ensure the safety of our viewers and participants. However, they are not closing any streets. Please follow all traffic rules and the SVUSD parade guidelines.

Thank you to Senior, Emily Crain, for designing our graduation flyers!

Our school's virtual graduation countdown is live! You can access the countdown via the following link:

Once the countdown is over the website will transition to your personalized landing page. The landing page will also host the video for the virtual graduation ceremony.

The virtual graduation will have recordings of our speakers, musical numbers, and presentations in addition to some bonus material. It is unlike any graduation ceremony Royal has had and includes some surprises for you. At 8:00 PM on June 5th, the countdown will transition and our graduation video will go live.

Following the premiere, you can download the entire video or individual components, or you may decide to share the link with friends and family who were not able to originally attend! Initially, they were only going to air our graduation one time, but because of a change at Envision Pro Av, the video will be available to watch in its entirety anytime once it goes live at 8:00 pm on June 5th. If the parade runs long or you decide to stop and grab dessert on your way home, graduation will be waiting for you! There is no need for family members who live in another time zone to lose sleep. This is a definite bonus of having a virtual graduation - unlimited tickets for friends and family!

We're not done yet!

Graduates will have the opportunity to return to the school with small groups of no more than 10 (on their assigned day listed below) to pick up their actual diploma, take pictures at three photo spots, and walk across our graduation stage. All of these will be set up in the quad between the main office and library.

Graduates, please bring a letter written to future self and include a small memento and photo to place in our Class of 2020 Time Capsule - This is a unique time, so save something that will be meaningful to you ten years from now. All items must fit in an envelope and should have the student's first and last name on it. The time capsule will be sealed and saved for the Class of 2020 10-year reunion.
