Nov. 30th-November Birthday Celebrations
If your child celebrated their birthday in November and you would like to send class treats, you may send them Thursday.
Math, Science, and Social Studies
We will begin working on our 11 facts in math fluency this week. This is where students begin to have more difficulty so please make sure they are working on these facts at home. Continue to work with your child on their math facts each night. The fact cards are in your child's pencil pouch. Also, continue to work on all previous facts: 1's through 6's, 9's and 10's. We will have our accuracy check on the 11 facts the Friday after fall break.
Science-We learned a lot and had a great time last week with our Ballooning Spiders stem project. We learned about gravity, mass, drag, and weight and how it affects the gravitational pull on our parachutes. This week we will begin the unit "Secrets of Flight".
Reading, Writing, and Word Study
Reading--We are continuing our Mission to Mars as we examine non-fiction writing. We will be working this week to look at articles, determine main idea, and use our knowledge to follow directions. We will build Mars Rovers, test them, and re-design based on original tests. We will also be working on creating a Macy's Day Parade balloon.
Reminder--all students are expected to have a "grade appropriate" book to read in class every day. (This means a chapter book or a longer non-fiction selection--not Where's Waldo or a joke book). We do classroom library check in and out each Tuesday and Friday, and each class has a weekly trip to the school library.
Writing--Students will spend time on noredink.com. We will also begin researching topics related to space and weather for a magazine project. Students will be working in pairs to complete their nonfiction text structures magazine after the holiday week.
