Notes from the Principaws #4 (Nov)
Mr. Vince Sette and Mrs. Nicole McQuate
Time is Flying By!
The first 9 weeks have come and gone. Thanks for a great start to the year we could not be as great as we are without your partnership. Report cards were sent home Friday, October 28th. If you did not receive one please let the office know ASAP. We have seen a dip in temperatures over the past few weeks and ask that everyone prepare for the elements as we do go outside as much as possible for recess.
The office is currently open from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm at the elementary.
We will begin to have different grade-level concerts throughout the year. Please refer to the letter from Mrs. Brown that was sent home to parents about our concerts during the school year.
Mrs. Brown's Letter for NES Concerts
Parents, please return all school forms ASAP. These are essential to ensure we have the most up-to-date information for your child. Thank you for your continued support in filling these forms out for us.

2022 NES Veterans Day Recognition
Norwayne Elementary Veterans Day Celebration
This year we will be celebrating Veterans Day as we did last year. The three Norwayne Schools will be doing a combined Veterans Day appreciation with involvement from The National Honor Society students and some elementary students. Mr. Dreher will read the names of all the Veterans in a small ceremony while being recorded.
In addition to the announcement ceremony, the students at NES will be honoring the Veterans by conducting a drive-through parade for any veteran that would like to participate. The parade will take place in the parent pick-up loop as the students will line the driveway with signs and cheers. The parade will begin at 1:30 pm and we ask for those participating to come to the back of the high school between 1:00 pm and 1:15 pm before driving over to the new parent parking lot at NES. We will have staff arranged at the high school to help navigate and start the parade. We will not begin the parade until 1:30 pm. At the conclusion of the parade, veterans may return to the elementary school to partake in some refreshments and then sign out their students as we have in the past.
Norwayne Elementary students are asked to “invite” family members that have served/are serving our country to have their name read as we honor America and say “Thank You” to our veterans. We also encourage our veterans to participate in the parade at 1:30 pm.
Please send the sign-up paper, back to school filled out with information if you know of a veteran that wishes to be recognized. There are two separate spaces to fill out. One for the ceremony name reading and a second for the parade at NES. By filling out the information and submitting it to the school you are giving permission that their name and information be posted on our school website.
Please return the form to school by Thursday, November 3rd, 2022, to ensure that your Veteran can be recognized.
In memory of many, In honor of all,
Thank you
Veterans Day Parade Ceremony @ NES
(Please note the parade will not begin until 1:30 pm and those participating are asked to meet at the back of the high school between 1:00 pm and 1:15 pm where staff will be to navigate and begin. The parade will have cars drive through the new parent parking lot/loop at NES. Students will be outside with signs and smiles thanking our Veterans)
In the event of inclement weather, we will cancel the parade and offer refreshments in the cafeteria to share with your family. The administration will send out a reminder on the day of if the parade would need to be canceled.

November Transportation Department Updates
Happy November!
Here at Transportation Safety is our #1 concern and we'd like to remind everyone about the school zone in front of the schools.
The 20 mph starts at the white lines on the road NOT at the flashing lights and then ends when you come to the "End school zone" sign.
Ohio Revised Code 4511.21 says drivers need to slow down to 20 mph in school zones when children are going to or leaving campus during the start and end of the school day. The lowered speed limit is also in effect during recess hours, and when 20 mph school speed limit signs are in place -- this means the exact times in which drivers are supposed to slow down varies depending on the school.
Norwayne Transportation has a Facebook page. There you can find updates on what's going on with our transportation department!
If you have any questions, you may reach out to Lori Weinman (Transportation Coordinator) via email (lweinman@norwayne.net) or phone(330-435-1141)
Question: What should a car do if they come up to a bus with its red lights on?
Student Handbook Talking Points
- If your child has a fever they must remain out of school for a minimum of 48 hours. They are able to return after these days as long as the last 24 hours they were fever-free without the aid of fever-reducing medication.
DRESS CODE REMINDER
- Tank tops, muscle shirts, bare midriffs, or sleeveless shirts are NOT permitted. Also, socks are to be worn at ALL times, even with sandals.
2022-2023 NES BREAKFAST and LUNCHES
Nutritious breakfasts and hot lunches are served at our school. For the 2022-2023 School Year breakfast and lunch are no longer free of charge. Milk is available for purchase for those carrying their own lunches. Lunch and milk prices are established annually by the Norwayne Board of Education and can be found noted below. If your child is going to eat a school lunch regularly, we encourage you to send in money for lunches weekly or monthly. Please put your money in an envelope with the student's name and teacher on it or use the online payment system to add money to their account.
Please note that there is now only a $10.00 charge limit in the lunchroom. Norwayne Local Schools have enrolled in https://www.payforit.net/. This service provides parents with a secure, fast, and convenient way to view and manage student lunch activities. Parents can sign up for low-balance notifications, can view students' balances, and deposit money into their children's meal accounts. Note there is a transaction fee for online student deposits. Parents can also send payments to school with their children. Please make checks payable to Norwayne Elementary School.
Information on prices is noted below:
2022-2023 NES Breakfast and Lunch Prices
Breakfast = $2.35
Lunch = $2.85
Extra Items at NES
Student Milk = $0.75
Pizza Per Slice (on pizza day) = $2.50
Norwayne Local Schools participate in the government's free and reduced lunch program. Parents are encouraged to fill out free and reduced forms if they feel they would qualify for these services. A new form must be filled out each year even if a family qualified in years past. Guidelines and applications are sent home at the beginning of each school year. If you feel you qualify, please apply.
Transportation Trivia Answer:
Answer: Red lights on the bus mean that they are loading and/or unloading students. Cars should come to a complete stop at least 10 ft away from the bus.
