A Message from Dr. Manola
Good morning, and happy Friday! We are pleased to join you this afternoon and bring you this week’s East Leyden Parent Bulletin! It’s been another busy and fast-paced week, and today, we are excited that we are but one week away from an incredibly well-deserved Spring Break! We hope that you and your families are well. Enjoy some warmer weather and sunshine this weekend!
This afternoon, we have quite a bit of information to share with you, so I’ll keep my opening note brief. As always, please let us know what we can help with, what questions you have, and if you need anything at all. Thank you for everything you do, day in and day out, for our students and all of #leydenpride.
Have an amazing weekend - Happy Friday!
Dr. Manola

Special thanks once again to Gina Caneva and Janine Asmus for their efforts in organizing our Women’s History Month celebrations!
LEYDEN CARES
Next week, our Class Councils and our Student Council are kicking off Leyden Cares week here at East! We invite your student to participate in a week-long series of events to celebrate and recognize members of our amazing community! Each day we invite students to participate in activities that encourage them to connect with the Leyden community. Each day of the week, students will receive a different message and call to action. These include:
Monday, 3/22 - Student Shout-outs
Tuesday, 3/23 - Sharing Gratitude with Teachers, Staff & Friends
Wednesday, 3/24 - Supporting Local Businesses
Thursday, 3/25 - Thank You to First Responders
Along with our daily messages, we will also be taking part in a week-long food and supply drive! Throughout the week, we will be collecting items, and most needed items include personal care products such as toothpaste, deodorant, body wash, shampoo, etc. They are also in need of baby diapers (in all sizes). No specific food items were requested. All food items must be non-perishable. Some highlights:
- Items can be dropped at Entrance 4 or Entrance 21
- Student Incentive
- Take a picture of yourself dropping off your items at the drive
- Post the picture to Instagram using the tag @leydenclassof2024 and the hashtag #LeydenCares
- Each picture your post will get you one entry into a raffle
- Chance to win Leyden swag
SAFETY WEEK
Also, next week, we will be taking part in Safety Week at both campuses. Given that drills are still required by law and knowing the importance of ensuring all students and staff who are on campus can engage in these drills, we have designed a series of drills and communications that will take place throughout the week. These are designed to provide as little interruption as possible and ensure that we cover students here two and four days per week.
That said, here are some key dates/highlights for next week for students who will be in the building:
Monday, March 22 & Tuesday, March 23:
- Lockdown Communication Drill will take place at 10 am (start of 5th period). Students will not engage in the drill to maintain distancing. Instead, a script will be read slowly and clearly discussing what students and staff should do in a real-lockdown event.
- Immediately following, we will engage in a safety inspection, hold in place drill.
Thursday, March 25 & Friday, March 26:
- During your Period 5 class, teachers will go over their Emergency Disaster drill procedures with the class. Again, students will not engage in the drill to maintain distancing.
If you have any questions or would like more information, feel free to contact Mr. Byrne, Mr. Grosch, or Ms. Carrera, our Deans, anytime!
