March 8, 2023 - NEWSLETTER
Greetings,
Spring break is a day away! In SLP Online Elementary, much of the student learning happens outside of a brick and mortar school and even outside of our homes. Spring break is an awesome opportunity to keep the brains engaged and the learning going wherever you are. When we return from spring break, we begin our final trimester of the year. I will share more information after break about Trimester 2 report cards.
Here are a few reminders for this week:
- Spring Break: There is no school for students Friday, March 10 through Monday, March 20. Students return to school on Tuesday, March 21.
- Mark your calendar—MAP Testing March 28 and 30: All K-6 SLP Online Elementary students will take MAP Reading and Math tests in March. The MAP tests will be given in-person at the Lighthouse School on March 28 and March 30. You will receive detailed information closer to the testing dates.
- Attendance: Call the attendance line, 763-600-5209, to report student absences due to illness, appointments, and vacation.
The field day last Friday was a great success. Thank you for your flexibility in supporting this learning experience for SLP Online Elementary students. There was a ton of learning, energy and fun going on that morning. Our next field experience day is Friday, March 31.
Enjoy your break!

Fourth graders take on the tapir
Lions, tigers and tapirs, oh my! The annual Minnesota Zoo Enrichment Design Competition challenges students to research and design a prototype that will help solve a current problem for zookeepers. This year, the chosen animal is likely unfamiliar to most – the “tapir” from Malaysia.
The fact that not many people know about the tapir is ultimately what set fourth graders in the gifted services program at Park Terrace, Centerview and Woodcrest Spanish Immersion on this design quest. Read the full story about the Woodcrest team that is moving forward in the competition and view photos of student designs.
