Journalism and Mass Communication Career Day
On Thursday, Feb. 8, Kelvin and I will be co-hosting the annual Journalism and Mass Communication Career Day. This year, we have moved the event to a Thursday, with an extended networking luncheon (12:30-2 p.m.) and career fair portion (2-5 p.m.) to better accommodate students' class schedules.
The purpose of the event is to bring employers from the communications industry who are seeking to connect with students in related majors to campus. Most employers attending will be looking to meet with students interested in careers in digital, print and broadcast journalism, creative mass media, media sales, advertising and public relations. They will be looking for both interns and full-time hires.
See the full schedule of events of events here. Please feel free to encourage students to attend, and send them to me with any questions. If you're in touch with any employers interested in attending, you can direct them here for more information.

- Preparing for career fairs, including AdPR Connection and the Journalism and Mass Communication Career Day

Ways Grady Faculty Can Collaborate with Samantha
Classroom Presentations
Faculty and staff can request in-class presentations on a variety of career-related topics. This can be especially helpful for faculty and staff who know they will be out of town on certain dates throughout the semester, though I am happy to do classroom presentations at any time.
Career topics that would be beneficial for Grady students include:
- Digital portfolios
- Resumes and/or creative resumes
- Cover letter development
- Preparation for AdPR Connection during fall semester
- Job searching in the communications industry
- Internship searching in the communications industry (especially during fall semester)
- Career paths related to Grady majors
Additional general career topics I could present on include networking, interviewing, professionalism and social media and the job search.
To schedule an in-class presentation, please email me at sam610@uga.edu. Please plan to schedule at least 3 weeks in advance.

How Samantha and Kelvin Collaborate
Kelvin Rutledge, the Grady College Director of Experiential Programs, and I collaborate often to ensure students' success. We work together on the Journalism and Mass Communication Career Day every February, providing resume critique days for Grady students and providing experiential opportunities for students, such as our Grady Goes tours of employer offices.
I serve as the primary career resource for students. As a Career Center staff member, I provide the bulk of resources for Grady students in terms of career preparation, consultations and transitions. While Kelvin and I both meet with Grady students about their careers, ideally they would meet with me first before meeting with Kelvin for additional assistance. Additionally, I and the Career Center team are prepared to serve all employers from the communications industry interested in connecting with Grady students.
With this in mind, Kelvin will be focusing on the university-wide experiential learning requirement, Intended-Grady student engagement and other internal student success initiatives for the college.
