What We Are Learning

Our School Improvement Goal at Schofield Elementary is to make sure that 80% or more of our students are proficient with Missouri Learning Standards for math and literacy. Here is what we will be learning this week to work toward this goal.

READING - We will begin practicing nonfiction sequencing.

MATH - We will begin working on prime and composite numbers and equivalent fractions.

My homework pages will be coming home in your child's home/school folder throughout the week. If these aren't getting home, please let me know asap. I strongly encourage your child to work on these at home every night that we have them. It's a great way to practice their math at home. It gives them an opportunity to show you what they are learning about along with practicing. I give a little incentive to my kiddos if they bring all of their homeworks from the unit back. Thanks for your help with this!

WRITING - We will complete a shorter, source-based opinion writing piece.

SCIENCE/S.S. - We will review the Revolutionary War and test WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY.

The 7 Habits

Students have created a personal and academic goal in their leadership binders. Be sure to ask them about it!

Parent Involvement

Schofield has many opportunities for families to volunteer and be involved during the school day. If you are interested in the below parent involvement opportunities, please contact Ms. Markie Bravestone, Schofield’s Assistant Principal, at markie.bravestone@republicschools.org.

  • Watch D.O.G.S. Dads

    • Dads spend the day mentoring students and helping around the school.

  • Super M.O.M.S.

    • Greet students at the beginning of the day

    • Help with breakfast of lunch

    • Help in the art room or library

    • Read to your lifelong learner’s class

In addition to the above opportunities during the school day, parents can attend PTO Meetings, assemblies, special building events and serve on the Parent Lighthouse Team. Communication about these events are on Schofield’s Facebook page and in monthly building newsletters.

Celebrations

We are working towards 350 tiger paws. We currently have 339.

Attendance Goals

Schofield's proportional attendance rate for the month so far is 94.48%. Remember our building level goal is to have a proportional attendance rate of more than 95%.

Each day that we have 100% attendance in our classroom we will place one letter of the word ATTENDANCE on the board. When we complete the word we will celebrate as a class!

As always, thanks for your help in making sure students get to school each day!

Last week we spelled attendance! We will choose our reward and celebrate this week.

Counselor's Corner

The School Counselor visited with my class this week

We talked about the following topic:

Applying career exploration and planning skills in the achievement of life career goals.

We talked about career paths, career clusters and took an interest inventory.

Please ask your student about the interest inventory and what path they are interested in.

Your student will be bringing home a portfolio, at the end of the year, showing you EVERYTHING we did.
