A Message from Mrs. Garrison

A big shout out to our staff who volunteered to lead our third and fourth grade girls in the new GIRLS on the RUN program. This fall we have had over 30 3rd and 4th grade girls participate in the GOTR program. GOTR is a program that inspires girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind! It is a 10-week program where the girl have developed essential skills to help them establish lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. We are currently working on positively impacting our school through a service project and we have physically and emotionally been preparing for our December 8th 5K event. This has all been possible because of the support and time of our coaches. A big thank you goes out to Mrs. Owens, Mr. Kirbo, Mrs. Collins, Ms. Baker, Mrs. Willingham, Ms. Stanfield, Mrs. McMullin and Mrs. Wilcox for their time and dedication to our girls.

Registration for our spring 2019 group will start on January 14th and the season will begin the week of February 4th. There will be more information to come at a later date.

Have a great weekend!

Holiday Assistance

Different organizations reach out to Powell Elementary to assist our students and families with items for the holidays. Please let us know if you would welcome assistance and would be willing for Mrs. Nixon, our counselor, to call or email you if an organization volunteers to donate this year. In the past we have had organizations offer to donate food, clothing, and toys to our families in need. If you are interested in receiving assistance, please email Mrs. Nixon at snixon@conroeisd.net or call her at 936-709-1700.

Nominations for Gifted & Talented Testing

Nominations are now open for Conroe Independent School District Gifted and Talented program. Although the testing will not take place until February, nominations are accepted at this time. Nominations can be made by the parents and/or teachers. It is recommended that parents of 2nd grade students wait until CogAT scores have arrived before nominating their child because CogAT scores are part of the GT assessment. If you are interested in nominating your child, you may want to discuss this with your child’s teacher at conferences. Nominations will be accepted through December 18. You may request a nomination form from Erin Anderson at eanderson@conroeisd.net. You can also find the nomination form and other GT information on the CISD GT homepage.
