Power of One Projects - Due by April 9, 2015
Don't forget to take photos of your child in action.
THEME: Kids CAN
KIDS CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE:
- Students continue to work on persuasive nomination speeches.
Some students started editing.
Our next phase is to delve into speech techniques: eye contact, gestures, voice intonation, etc. Students will practice using a variety of speech techniques before giving his/her speech to the class. We will film speeches in front of our green screen and learn video editing techniques with the green screen.
PEEK ahead:
- Students will make a bumper sticker with a slogan and trademark for his/her humanitarian.
- Each student will write a radio script to advertise his/her humanitarian's positive impact on the world. We will record and edit radio commercials.
Centers
Enrichment Centers:
- Topic Study: We continue to make great progress in topic study!
- Humanitarian Slogan link
- Science: We examined analyzed the difference between quantitative science and qualitative science.
- Math - We continue to solve multi-step math problems.
Creativity and PGD
- Visual Word Puzzle: Students brainstormed words for our PEAK produced Visual Word Puzzle Video.
- Stress: Students have started to examine stress and how to manage it. We looked at a list of topics in our lives (family, friends, after school activities, homework, school, etc). We gave each area of our lives a numeric value (out of 10) of how stressful it is to us. Students then made a color coded pie chart on the stress currently in their lives. We then made a new pie chart on what we would like our lives to look like (reducing stress in an area if need be). Some students feel very little stress others feel a great deal of stress. We read the book: "Stress can really get on your nerves." Students read the book and journaled "take aways" that he/ she wanted to remember. We are covering the definition of stress, mental and physical reactions to stress, and ways to manage stress. Our class discussions are helpful as some kids just need to hear that others feel the same way they do!
- Team Challenge: Students participated in a team challenge --- Paper Chain. The object was to make a paper chain as long as possible in 4 minutes - but you could only use one hand! It was great fun to see the cooperation and problem solving skills that transpired. (Wednesday and Thursday class will participate next week - we ran out of time!)
