From Mr. Clemente
I hope everyone has had a great summer break! It's hard to believe that it's nearly time to start up again with the 2019 - 2020 school year. I'm really looking forward to starting fresh and creating with this group of students!
I'd like to direct your attention to some materials before marching band camp starts up on Monday, 7/29. Please click on the links below for information.
General Marching Band Information
What Do I Need for Marching Band?
You'll find lots of information in the above links, but here are some key points:
- Marching band camp runs 7/29 - 8/2 and 8/5 - 8/8. Rehearsals start at 9:00 AM and end at 5:00 PM, with lunch at 12:00 PM
- See above for what to bring, but take the time now to get outside and used to being in the heat. Marching band is a primarily outdoor activity, and students should start to become acclimated to our wonderful Florida weather by taking a walk, doing some work around the outside of the house, mowing the lawn, playing frisbee, etc. Coming straight from the couch watching TV all summer to band camp does not set you up well for the heat.
- Sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses are essential! Students will have lots of time to reapply sunscreen when we are out for longer periods of time.
- Instrument in good working order
- Both Pre-Game and Halftime music, printed and in a 3-ring binder with page protectors. Pre-Game music is linked above, and students should have Halftime music from Mini-Camp back in May.
The Thursday and Friday prior to marching band camp will be optional days for marching band uniform fittings. If you are able to make it in any time during the fittings times listed above - no matter what grade level - please come in to have your uniform fitted. I have separated the times out by grade in hopes to avoid long lines and overwhelming our parent volunteers. All students who are unable to make these optional fitting opportunities will be fit during marching band camp.
Keep a close eye on your email over the next week and a half. There will be lots of information coming out from both myself as well as other parent volunteers.
I hope to see everyone at our upcoming Skate Night at Semoran Skateway on Saturday, 7/27! Free for students, parents, and families!
