This week the Board of Trustees of the Encinitas Union School District recognizes and honors the contributions of our public school employees and declared the week of May 2 - 6, 2022 as Public School Employees Week in the Encinitas Union School District. We know that our dedicated employees make a significant difference in the lives of students. Each position and person in our district plays a critical role in fostering school communities where students can thrive. We appreciated your support in celebrating and recognizing the tremendous efforts of our EUSD employees!
Mental Health Awareness Month
National Mental Health Awareness Month provides an opportunity to focus on achieving good mental health and aims to get people talking about their mental health to reduce the stigma that stops people from asking for help. This year’s theme, Take Action for Mental Health, is part of California’s ongoing mental health movement to provide information, resources, and support for your own mental health or the mental health of someone you care about.
District Resources include:
TRAC support: TRAC teachers provide social emotional learning lessons weekly or biweekly to all students in the district from Kindergarten through 6th graders. TRAC stands for Teambuilding, Regulation, Awareness, and Community. The lessons follow the framework provided by CASEL (the Collaborative for social, academic and emotional learning), which is based around 5 core elements: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, responsible decision-making and relationship skills. TRAC teachers also provide small group lessons for students who benefit from additional support in this area. The lessons provide students with strategies to recognize and manage their emotions, behaviors and strengths, demonstrate empathy for others, handle conflict, work well in teams and make healthy and ethical decisions about their own behavior.
.
Yoga/Health and Wellness: Yoga/Health & Wellness is part of every student’s week. We recognize that education and health are interdependent. Students are better learners when they are healthy, well, and feel good both physically and mentally. Our Health & Wellness program teaches students to move with control and confidence through yoga-based exercises, and relax by connecting breath with movement. The calm breathing techniques learned in Health & Wellness classes is a portable tool students can use to increase their ability to self-manage and regulate emotions.
Counseling in schools: Each of our schools has a full time school psychologist who can provide short term counseling supports to students in need. This year we also added licensed counselors who support students in small group or individual counseling sessions at school.
Crisis counseling in schools: When a student is in crisis, our school psychologists can provide supports and resources to help. The district has suicide risk protocols and threat risk protocols to support students in crisis. We can also facilitate access to community supports.
Resources in San Diego include:
San Diego County: Mental Health Matters

Enrichment Survey Results
We wish to thank all of the family members who provided feedback on the district Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) and Enrichment surveys. Your feedback is vital to our on-going programs as well as the revisions and enhancements we will make in the future. This week we wanted to share some summaries of the Enrichment feedback, which was shared with each school site’s principal, EEF representative, and PTA President, to inform site decisions regarding Enrichment offerings for next year. We know securing and retaining quality teachers for our Enrichment programs continues to be an important area of need for all of our sites.
Parents were more informed about their site’s Enrichment offerings this year than last year at all of our schools.
Overall, parents were very or extremely satisfied with 90% of Enrichment offerings.
Science, Art, Music and P.E. are popular choices amongst many parents
It should be noted that all EUSD students receive Science within their grade level classes and that any Enrichment Science offerings are above and beyond what is done in class with their teacher.
Here are just a few quotes from our Enrichment survey:
My child loves all the instructors and the curriculum. We thoroughly appreciate the enrichment services provided.
The enrichment teachers are caring and kind. We really appreciate their efforts to educate our children in the specialty area.
My son looks forward to "wheel day" every week and thoroughly enjoys all of the programs offered!
I find enrichment programs to be extremely important for both general development and allowing our children to experience a wide range of activities so they can discover their own favorites and future paths. No matter how well planned, we can't predict exactly what will stick with our children. Multiple opportunities will do that and not just those we the parents are interested in.
